Well, I still haven't updated my timeline yet because I haven't recieved anything in the mail yet (neither NOA1 or NOA2) probably because they are mailing everything to Indonesia and I may never get it, but according to the E-Notifications I got the notification that the lockbox recieved my Petition in Chicago on January 8th and was forwarded to the California service center and that within a week they would be mailing me NOA1. Then today I just received an E-Notification from my USCIS online account that "on Januray 18th they Approved our I-130 petition" and that they are now in the Post Decision phase and that they are mailing me something again(presumablly NOA2. The email says that "Post Decision Processing may involve forwarding our petition to NVC depending on our case..." So it appeasr that it was 10 days for step 1. I'll update my timeline with official dates when I see this stuff come in the mail or I talk to them on the phone to verify tomorow (well tonight here).

Hi there. Just curious, did you by any chance petition for this same individual previously, like an I-129 petition prior to proceeding with the I-130? Additionally, not to burst your bubble and I do really hope that this is the case for you, but I received a notification some time ago that was sent in error that led me to believe our process was being moved along faster as well. It turned out to be an error. Hopefully in your case this was not an error and that you are in fact moving along this swiftly, that would be awesome. Anyway best of luck to you!

Wow! Just wow! I'm only at about 40 days since NOA1 and I'm thinking "What the hell?" I can only imagine what those around 160 days plus must be thinking. Good luck with the petition. This whole process is just mind-numbing to say the least. Some get approve insanely fast, and others insanely slow. No rhyme or reason. Just wow! 8 days? wow!

No rhyme or reason? This was pretty much what a DCF case used to be and those were completed very quickly.

Congrats!

This seems to be more proof that people who live abroad (ie could have filed DCF until last year) are being processed faster.

I wasn't strictly referring to DCF's, I was referring to the fact that some petitions are approved within a month for some and some take many, many months and it seems to be a huge ####### shoot. Not talking about the 8 to 13 days one, I think someone already came up with a theory on why those are being approved so quick, it's replacing DCF's. But when someone sends a petition to CSC from inside the USA and is approved within a month while others are still waiting, it makes you scratch your head.

The DCF theory is a good one...

I guess it's not totally unreasonable to imagine the USCIS going through the g-325a's to check if applicants meet the foreign residency requirements of DCF.

We were in the "just missed DCF" boat and were totally bummed about it. We just swallowed it and accepted it as c'est la vie. In the end though, I think going through the Chicago lockbox has ultimately taken a similar amount of time as a DCF would have (4 to 5 months).

Best of luck to everyone on their visa journeys and hope they're all quick ones.

Nope, never even heard of USCIS before until we started looking into this. First time I've sent them anything. I will say that we spent a lot of time making sure that the package was as thourough as possible, tried to include every variation of proof that they asked for although only one is supposedly necessary (included bills with our names, 140+ photos, marriage certs, baby's birth cert, crba, us passport, wife's translated birth cert, copy of passport, affidavits, etc.. Photos were all printed 4 to 6 per page (depending on orientation) and each had the exact date/time taken in UTC watermarked onto the bottom right corner of the photo and then a thourough description below. In the end the packet was just over 1kg. Whole thing was organized in the order it was asked for in the instructions and broken into sections each individually stapled together with its own cover sheet. All the sections were bound together to make the packet with those black clip things on the sides and with an outline on the top outlining all the sections (in outline format roman numerals and subheadings, etc...) just wanted to make sure we could say this was the best we could do.

I just called the hotline and the computer told me that we were approved also and they sent that info along with what to do next on some i797. Hopefully we will actually receive that mail here in Bali. Indonesian post office kind of has a bad reputation but that's mostly for packages not letters. Still haven't recieved the noa1 yet but it isn't really long enough to complain yet. Hopefully if the mail here turns out to be a failure then they can send it straight to the consulate and we can just go pick it up from there. I'm guessing they use something more reliable like FedEx when they mail to the consulate.

Yer gonna do NVC Processing soonish.. Suggest you troll around the wiki space here, look up Ling Che in the wiki search box.

Good Luck on the rest !

But this is seriously screwing up he numbers. Few weeks ago VJ was predicting my NOA2 by April 26th now it is saying by January 26th. All of these low end numbers and approvals from December and January filings are screwing up all predictions.

I smell a new category here at VJ, 'Filed from Overseas'.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
