I have a question regaurding employment, I have had a couple of oppurtunities come to me over the last couple of days. I am having and interview tomorrow, I know that I cant legally work until I have my EAD (which at my guess is still over 1 month away..maybe more). But I would like to know if I am able to be signed up for employment and then not physically start working until I recieve my card?

Respectfuly, I will say NO.

No SSN#. No Authorization to look for work. Even if you are just playing the field.

In essense: you would be competing with people who are legal to work NOW.

Also, I believe the activity would be considered Illegal. Just wait!

You cannot apply for work until you are so authorized by the US Goverment.

I would think LONG AND HARD before showing for that Interview. You sign your name to anything and/or the employer accepts you are screwed.

I am going to disagree with the previous reply. I think it is fine to interview, and even accept a position, as long as the contract states your first date of work is AFTER your EAD.

I'm going to dis-agree. It is apparent the OP is not legal to work but solicits as if he was able to with the understanding that he/she would have to await documentation from the Goverment. Which means: Soliciting for employment in an illegal status with the US Goverment.

Show me a Link that states: This activity is Deemed Legal.

I not always right but there is something wrong with this picture.

Like applying for next years apple crop. I should be legal by then and sign a conditional agreement for emploment at that time.

Agreed.

Interviewing is just talking. You are not working. You are talking. There is nothing illegal about that.

The rule is that you cannot work. The rule is not that you can't talk to prospective employer.

You can sign any work contract you want as long as you don't actually do any work.

I will be explaining it to my prospective employer "that I can not work until I recieve my EAD" . My social security card also backs that fact up with the "not autherized to work without approval"..ect.. No contracts will be signed tomorrow I can assure you of that its is just and interview plain and simple.

Of course you can look for work while waiting for your EAD. You just can't start until you have your EAD. Of course you should tell your prospective employer the situation (waiting for EAD, can't start till EAD is in hand). Also people waiting for an EAD after entering on a K-1 then getting married and adjusting status are not in an "illegal status".
