Hello. My name is Matthew, I am a US citizen by birth, but have lived my whole life in the Philippines. Last June I flew back to the US to enlist in the military. I have successfully done that, and I am currently awaiting my start date, which is in May, 2012. As of the moment I am unemployed, and am solely relying on my parents financial help.

Before I flew to the US, I filed an I-130 petition for my wife (who is a filipino citizen). While I was in the US, my wife who stayed in the Philippines received a letter stating that our I-130 petition has been approved, and that we need to mail in the DS-230 and Notification of Applicant Readiness forms in order for my wife to be scheduled for an interview. I was also told at the embassy that since I am unemployed, I will need a co-sponsor to fully sponsor my wife. I spoke to my uncle who lives in the US and is financially capable, and he has agreed to be the sponsor. I was told by the US embassy that my wife will need to bring all the necessary documents of financial support from my uncle to the interview, included ofcourse the I-864 form.

Now my question is, what exact documents will I need to ask from my uncle? Keep in mind that my uncle lives in the US, and my wife is in the Philippines, and she will have her interview at the US embassy in Manila. Will we need original copies of financial proof from my uncle or will photocopies be sufficient?

Thanks for all the help.

-Matthew R.

You need to fill out an i-864 also. Your uncle will need to fill out one as the co-sponsor and provide last 3 years of tax returns and some current pay stubs. He can give you 3 years of tax transcripts from IRS (free) or 3 years of 1040 tax returns (signed with W2 attached).

Need original two i-864 with signature on 1040 or transcript copies from IRS. Submit copies to NVC and bring originals to interview.

I may be wrong about sending copies to NVC. I used electronic processing.. you're not..

I think that's all you need...
