Thanks in advance for the assist. We are going through the AOS now. Lili arrived in the states in late December ( k1 fiancee visa) and we married on Dec 29th. Lili doesn't have a social security number yet. I need to file married on my taxes this year. How do I do this without Lili having a SS#? What is needed? W7 form attached with my 1040?

We went and tried to get her a SS# last week. We filled out the form waited in line for 2 hours and handed in all required information. For some reason the information the worker put in the computer didn't match what was on the computer. She said it needed additional work and someone needed to manually look at it. Grrrrrrrrrrr

whoa.

let's back up a step.

go back to the SSA office, apply again,

ask clerk to look her up in the SAVE database via A# and VISA name. *

IF SOME PROBLEM on the lookup - ie - A# is off a digit or two, or VISA NAME is mis-spelled -

withdraw the application, get to the local CBP secondary inspection / deferred inspection office

and then

get a shift supervisor. Tell him/her there's an error in the SAVE database - one of his crew fat-fingered the data entry work. Show the passport and I-94 and visa page. Ask him/her to correct the typo. Don't leave till the typo is corrected.

Then wait 4 business days. Then go back to the SSA office, and apply again.

----

* - it may be that the clerk already forwarded all on to USCIS, where a verification is performed. This process takes 30 to 45 days, and you want to EXTRACT the application, WITHDRAW the application, if indeed this is the case. You'll need to get the SSA Supervisor involved, as the application needs to be withdrawn due to clerical error.

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

We went to SS Office on January 9th. Im sure all the information has already been submitted to USCIS. Should we go back to the SS Office and ask to see Supervisor and withdraw our app? Wont this start the process all over again? The lady went over all the information she entered into the computer with us. It was correct. It just didnt match/confirm what the computer said......

What to do????

'the computer' = 'SAVE DATABASE SYSTEM'

so, reread my post to you, dissect it again..

make up some if/then logic blocks.

[then do what I said to do, ya?]

good luck !

Make an info pass if call does not work as Darnell stated, then go back to Social Security office. There is no easy fix to this stuff.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

infopass appointment with USCIS human can not fix name / A# problems - only CBP can fix.

K-1 holder first learn of name/A# problems when apply for SSN at SSA office.

It's messy - only CBP secondary inspection / deferred inspection office can fix.

Of course, the other option is to wait 45 days for USCIS to declare her a real human, so the SSN application can go forth,

but is faster to do , to be declared a real human, via CBP; CBP has access to EDIT SAVE records, SSA office can only look up in READ ONLY MODE.

The beauty here is that CBP can fix in real time , though the change is not posted until 3 to 4 days later in SAVE.

ok - that was fast - anomoly in SSA time - which SSA office was this? [city/street name]

She can go back on Monday, ask for the SSN [the number, not the card] and the SSA clerk can give it to her, face to face.
