This is a bit complicated, just letting you know before I start.

I am an Irish citizen and got married to my wife whos an American in July. We filed all our paper work for Permanent resident/adjustment of status, work, travel documents, affidavit of support paid correct fees etc in about September. Since then my I-765 employment authorization and I-131 travel document have been returned 3 times with various minor erorrs being the problem.

The last time it was returned it included my whole I-485 package, stating that the check amount was incorrect but months before this I had recieved receipts both for my I-130 and I-485 stating the amount was recieved and that $o.oo was due. I got worried and called customer care who recomend I arrange a meeting with the infopass company. I met them at the start of January and I was told by them that an error was made and my I-485 should of not been sent back because I had my reciept stating that Iv paid and according to his computer all that was needed was intial evidence for my affidavet of support. I found out then due to my own fault that I had left out my father in law (my joint sponser) proof of citizenship and my wife (my main sponsers) tax return.

I then called USCIS customer help line and told them my story. I was transfered twice to different people and then told that if it says the check amount was incorrect, there is a financial issue. I assured him I had fully paid $1070, including biometrics, for the I-485 and $420 for the I-130 and had reciepts for both. I was then given a number for the financial department and told to call them. I called, no answer and left a message stating it was urgent. During the calls with USCIS i was told that my work permit could take up to a further 90 days and that if my information isnt fully submitted within 80 days my whole case could be denied.

Iv been here 8 months and need my work authorization approoved badly and my travel documents approved to get home for a wedding in June. There has been a communication breakdown somewhere along the line and im left a bit stuck. Any advice or has anyone else experienced something similar? Also does the work authorization permit really take 90 days? Anything will help, thank you.

With what visa did you enter the United States?

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

I wonder if you put the wrong authorization code (which should be C9) when you filed the EAD and therefore they think you owe them money. The files get separated along the way, and if the adjudicator who had your EAD application can't make heads nor tails of what you are trying to do, then they can't approve it.

If you have gotten 3 RFEs already, I suggest you get a lawyer to help you with the forms. You are getting close to being denied because of failure to respond correctly to RFEs. DIY doesn't seem right for you. Good luck.

For now: I might do some serious reading on this site, and compare your applications with the guides at the top, to see where you went wrong.

I would suggest contacting your congressman's office. I contacted them and they were brilliant! My EaD was missing for awhile and USCIS "helpline" and infopass were useless. My congressman's office was able to get someone on the phone that could actually look at the information on my case (and not just read what was on a monitor). That helped out tons because we were able to figure out what the breakdown in communication was and get to fixing it instead of getting the run around. Good luck!
