Hi everyone my petition reached the chicago Lockbox on Friday January 13,2012 but I'm still waiting on an NOA1.

Im currently residing with my spouse in Argentina and have been since May 25,2011 aside from the 2 weeks I left back home due to a family emergency. I wasn't able to do DCF here so I sent it to the Chicago lockbox. Yesterday I was going through alot of topics and many people were saying that overseas petitions take as little as 30 days to get approved. Is that true? Anyone have stories on that? I'm very curious. I hope my petition doesn't take 5 months.

Thanks

Since there's no USCIS field office in Argentina, DCF won't be an option for you, unfortunately.

And yes, they can take as little as 30 days. Ours was approved in two weeks. Go to the DCF forum for stories.

So after the 1-130 is approved you get an interview at the consulate a month later correct? and then you are approved for the cr1/ir1 within a few days and given 6 months to get to America?

We are wanting to go to America a little bit before December 13 because that is when my wifes New Zealand work permit expires.

We are going to be filing our i-130 middle of February so technically speaking if USCIS is fast tracking overseas petitioners we could have our interview around march/april and have to leave NZ september/october which is a couple months sooner than we would like.

On the other hand if they are not fast tracking and we apply later then we will miss December.

A bit of a conundrum.

It depends on the consulate. They're not all on the same quick timelines. We wanted to travel in December, so we applied in February, got approved right away with an interview in March. We requested an interview re-schedule closer to our travel date so the visa wouldn't expire.

Check on the New Zealand-specific timelines to get an idea of how to proceed. Also check about how the IV unit responds to interview re-schedule requests.

Are you asking if your approval will be faster than usual because you live in Argentina? No. Your process is just like everyone else's normal US-filed I-130 petition.

The "DCF stories" are in the Direct Consular Filing forum here on VJ, but should really have no bearing on your experience.

Yup, is massive shift on adjudication queue.

when you write 'as little as 30 days' you really meant to say 'in as many as 30 days'

as

many of the I-130 petitions are being approved right at the 2nd week mark.

Check out the VJ Timelines area on CR-1 visa - study a bit - you'll see the trend.

I'm actually happy that the adjudication queue got shifted now that DCF has been yanked.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Yes, it is true that I-130 petitions sent by USCs residing abroad are approved fast by USCIS these days, but I've only seen such cases when the country they reside in is part of VWP: France, Spain, Japan, Australia... + some from Israël and one from Ukraine. So keep your hopes up but don't make life changing arrangements based on it!

If you've reached the 1st month mark and haven't heard a thing, it probably means you ended up in the regular queue.

I don't know if it's the same for all members in this situation who got a fast approval, but my case was "touched" everyday for a while before I got approved, so it might be a clue.

CR1 Visa

USCIS STAGE: 16 days No expedite request but USC residing abroad
NVC STAGE: 19 days from case # to case complete
03/27/12: interview at Paris embassy - APPROVED
04/12/12: POE San Diego

ROC
01/15/14: sent I-751 application

05/14/14: received card production notification by e-mail, approval date 05/13

Naturalization

02/01/24: N-400 submitted online; Biometrics reuse notice received immediately online; "case being actively reviewed" after a couple hours

02/09/24: received NOA1 by mail

02/10/24: received biometrics reuse notice by mail

04/08/24: interview scheduled for 05/14. Received "We have taken an action in your case" email.

05/14/24: approved at interview, same-day oath ceremony in San Francisco 🥳 🇺🇸

Passport

06/10/24: application submitted at post office for passport book and card, paid for expedited processing and shipping

06/24/24: received email notification that passport was approved, then shipped with tracking number

06/25/24: passport received

Well, my NOA1 date of my I-130 is August 9th...and I haven't heard a word back from the CSC (Wife is in NZ). Unless you are being deployed via military, an expedite is very unlikely. It's coming up on the 5 1/2 month mark without a NOA2 and calling the CSC and state senators have gotten me no where. You need to file this ASAP and hope you can make it by then(if somehow early you can push the interview date back). My wife and I were hoping she'd be here by now, and it's looking like a good 9-10 month turn around from NOA to POE, IF they start moving through the visas now. I wish I knew how so many people are able to get through the CSC I-130's in 2-4 weeks.

No. There's still the NVC Intake to handle. That's the real downer for 'no DCF'

Darnell, How can you see from a timeline where the USC is petitioning from? I've been looking, trying to see if there might be hope of faster processing for my petition but can't see how to tell where the petitioner is.

Thanks!
