1040 vs IRS Transcripts

Sorry, correct me if I'm wrong but were you there at the interview?

They didn't even look at the income, I stated that is my concern yes, but they didn't even look at it - the particular CO we had DID NOT ACCEPT THE TAX TRANSCRIPT OR MY W2. I provided 2007 to 2010 W2s and Tax Transcripts. Did I make a mistake? Yes, I should have included the Form 1040's, but actually I think my case was a special blessing in disguise.

IF they denied based on income, then my 221g WOULD HAVE SAID SO. PERIOD. But it doesn't, it says 2010 W2 (which she had with her) and 2010 Income Tax Return needed. Why would they ask for the stuff if they know it wasn't sufficient?

Point of the story:

TAKE W2, FORM 1040, and IF you have them, IRS Tax Transcripts as backup, because maybe the CO doesn't pay taxes and therefore has no idea what a Tax Transcript really is!

You gotta ask yourself the Dirty Harry:

I know what you're thinking. "Did he take six documents or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I kind of lost track myself. But being as this is the Manila Embassy, the most stringent Embassy in the world, and would blow your case clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

And learn from the mistakes (or hidden blessings) of others so you don't have to go through what we did.

AND ABOVE ALL - GIVE GLORY TO GOD no matter what the outcome!

=) Because He sure does know best, and I praise Him for this process because it truly is, a blessing to not have to get a sponsor and go through Administrative Review. Submitting extra documents is much better.

just a question, did the annual income you reported on the I-134 reflect the gross income of your 2010 tax return or your higher current annual income?

That has been my whole rub all along. Posters who don't understand the process keep telling novice members they did not get their visa that day, for having a transcript instead of a 1040. That is just blatant false mis leading info.

It doesn't say anything about copies because a copy is the only thing anyone can submit to the Embassy. If you complete your 1040 by hand, you send the original to the IRS, and the only thing you can possibly submit to the Embassy is a copy.

Tahoma,

Just FYI!

No you are wrong. Nowadays people file their taxes via e-file. What does this means, you complete and file your taxes only when you are done you sign the file electronically both federal and local state tax. You can print and sign the original 1040 and keep if for your file for three years in case IRS will audit you. So in this case, if you have the original why not, of which in my case, I will send the original to NVC for my dad's petition (IR-5).

You do realize you are replying to a posting that is heading towards two years old?

And if you read Tahoma's post he is not wrong..."IF you complete your 1040 by hand, you send the original to the IRS, and the only thing you can possibly submit to the Embassy is a copy.".

Not everyone e-files.

It shouldn't cost you any money , I got my 1040s and w2s for the last 3 years and it only took a week to get to me. Just call em up and tell them you need it ASAP. Getting them online costs a bit of money ,but directly from the IRS should cost you nothing!

You probably got transcripts

I got 3 years worth for free.....I think I faxed in the request

Her interview went perfectly fine with them

People that say they need W2's are full of it............... esp. since tax transcripts are more official & DIRECTLY SENT from IRS.

I did not say that w-2's were not necessary...in fact I believe they are....and she had these also

Edited::::: hmm maybe you are correct.....I did not read you post as carefully as I should have...the transcript is official....w-2's would seem redundant (except

that they show proof of your employer--in addition to the employer letter)

I was speaking of a 1040 vs. a transcript

If you bring a handwritten 1040, you would have to bring w-2"s to confirm that it is authentic

Regardless....if you do all of it....your case looks more iron clad to the consular......on that point we all can agree

Reality IS the embassy instructions letter states (tax transcribes are totally acceptable as well, but to say "people are full of it" when in fact it is exactly what the embassy states as required... hmm) :

n. EVIDENCE OF SUPPORT. You should be able to demonstrate that you will not become a public charge
or be a burden on the U.S. taxpayers for financial support. A completed I-134 Affidavit of Support Form
with original signature will be useful to the consular officer to evaluate your petitioner’s ability to be
financially responsible for you. You should also submit your petitioner’s most recent U.S. Federal income
tax return (Form 1040) and wage statements (Form W-2). Employment letters stating salaries and bank
statements may be included to substantiate the I-134. Download Form I-134 at

Hi hank! So you think tax transcripts are fine? I already have 2010-2012 tax transcripts available.. But i got concerned when i read this post.. Still confusing coz all i hear are debates lol.. Can't find a concrete answer.. Anyway, i do have a copy of my form 1040 (for keeping in case needed), but those are just my copies when i originally filed my taxes.. And they did not come from IRS (should it have a seal, letterhead or something meaning they are authentic coz it came directly from irs?).. I talked to a rep and it would cost me $57 to request for an exact copy of my form 1040 and would take 60-75 days to process..

If you have your tax transcripts from 2012 you are good to go (other years are not needed, requested, nor accepted by USEM).

The embassy instructions letter states tax return, but people have been using transcripts for years without issue, they are the same information.

If you choose to use a tax return, you can make a copy of the one you have (making sure it's signed and dated)... does not need to be from the IRS.

Use your 2012 transcripts...
