Change of Address with USCIS right after filing for AOS

Hey guys,

We are about to start the AOS process and are planning on sending the paperwork by the end of this week. The only issue is that we are moving to a new place end of January and If I were to send in the paperwork by the 20th of this month (obviously we would have to use the current address as we won't get the exact new address until the last week of Jan) then we might have to change it with USCIS by the time end of the month rolls around. I'm just curious if I should just wait until after we move, but I really don't want to waste two weeks, would it be easy to do? In other words USCIS wouldn't ask us to re-do the forms especially because they would have just received the AOS papers? I just don't want to delay anything for any reason! Also, I know the NOA1 is normally sent out within 10 days of them receiving the initial AOS documents, which would probably take us close to the end of the month. Has anyone changed their address right after filing a petition.

Your thoughts on this would be really appreciated.

It won't cause a problem with the paperwork but the post office won't forward USCIS mail as a rule. Will you be able to check your mail at the old address or do you have a family member where you could send things "in care of" in the meantime to make sure you do not miss your NOA?

I'd wait till I moved.

You could miss a biometics notice; notice of RFE, or even an appointment notice.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.

Ditto with the above. I would wait until you move. It's not that much longer.

Thank you guys. Yeah I agree, I think I should wait. I called the new place where we're going to be moving to, and now I have the address, so I can potentially use the new address on the forms.

The only other thing which is making me uncomfortable about doing this is that we are actually not living there, the forms might ask how long have you been living at the current address. It shouldn't be a problem I hope. Do you guys think that's a good idea? Thanks again for your speedy response.

From a very recent similar experience I would say the best thing is to wait till you move and put in the new address.

If you are in a rush to get all the documents than you technically can change your address later and let me tell they do not care where you live at all they care about where they could send you letters that you will for sure receive.

I had to change my address not because I moved but because the post office wont deliver mail to our house and I did put our PO Box info on the cover letter and the "in care of" box but they didn't even look at it and sent it to our house which obviously got returned to them. When I called them to change the address they did not care at all that I didn't move and that the original address is still my residence address, they only cared about where they could send mail to me. I also had to complete the AR11 online form which was very easy to do.

So I must say I was surprised by how fast they updated the "new" address, they sent me a letter to the new address confirming that they have changed it within 4 days after my call to them. BUT I have not received the NOA1 that got returned to them yet....

So it's kind of a dangerous situation with them. They get confused a little. So it is possible to do so but I would definitely recommend you to either wait or just put your parents address or the new one if you could collect your mail from there before you actually move in.
