You probably don't need to wait for the official GOP announcement on the Maine caucuses, which won't come before Feb. 11th.

Ron Paul supporters in Maine have a very good discussion group on Facebook, and you can follow the Maine Caucus as it continues to unfold over the next several days.

There already have been significant and very promising results in small towns where there's already been a caucus.

Ron Paul supporters have been doing very well in this state where he got more than 18% of the vote in 2008.

He's been winning in each of the small towns I've seen reports from as of this date (these results only are preliminary, so you'll want to see the bulk of voting as it happens in the next 8 days).

The facebook page is NOT expressly for the purpose of publishing results...however, some people have been reporting what has happened at their caucuses.

Also, it's important to remember that the candidate votes at the caucus are a preference vote ONLY. The real action will come later at the state convention. The important part of these caucuses in in the selection of delegates and Delegate Chairs.

Most of the caucus voting is scheduled between Feb 4th and Feb 11th.

The caucuses in some towns already have occured, and here's result taken from the facebook discussion page --- You will want to check out the docs tab.

"The next item of business was the NON-BINDING PRESIDENTIAL PREFERENCE POLL. This is basically a vote on who each caucus goer would like to see get the

Presidential nomination and carries NO weight, other than to assess the

possible direction of the DELEGATES. This simply was done by each

caucus goer by writing a name on a piece of paper and passing it in to

be counted. The Maine GOP has wanted to keep the results of these polls

a secret so they can announce the results on 11 February 2012 in

Portland. If your Delegate Chair is smart, they will announce the

results to the caucus goers. This makes the process more transparent

and prevents for the possibility of manipulation, especially if we

demand to see the town breakdowns on the 11th of February.

There is another Facebook page you might want to join, called Now or Never-Maine: It has a large membership and also is dedicated to the Maine Caucus. It means reading non-caucus specific stuff to get to gems like this, posted on Wednesday by a Ron Paul caucus goer:

"Lee had a great caucus, and we had a good time as most rural Maine folk do at a town get together! We filled 6 out of 7 delegate positions so far, 5 I think are Ron Paul supporters, 1 undecided. Of the polls, 7 unanimously voted for Scott D'Amboise (NONE for Olympia Snowe!), 6 voted for Ron Paul, 1 undecided. All four Penobscot county committee member positions were filled with constitutionally-minded folk."

(note, that in the Scott D'Amboise vote they are not speaking of a

In Maine, Paul vies to extend Romney losing streak

SANFORD, Maine (AP) — Mitt Romney hoped to avoid a fourth straight election setback Saturday in the GOP presidential nomination race, but feisty Ron Paul could extend that losing streak with a victory in Maine's caucuses.

Paul was optimistic as he greeted morning caucus-goers in Sanford, where a few hundred Republicans gathered in a nearly-filled high school gymnasium.

"I think we have a very good chance," Paul said. Romney will "be better off if he wins it and I'm going to be a lot better off if I win. So this will give me momentum and it will just maintain his. It's a pretty important state as far as I'm concerned."

Paul, a libertarian-minded Texas congressman, is fighting to prove he's capable of winning at all, particularly in a state where his campaign has focused considerable attention. He has scored a few top three finishes in other early voting states, but his strategy is based on winning some of the smaller caucus contests where his passionate base of support can have an oversized impact.

Paul suggested his candidacy was at a critical juncture. Asked whether he would stay in the contest until the GOP's national convention in August, he answered: "I'm going to stay in as long as I'm in the race. And right now I'm in the race."

There is no reliable polling to gauge the state of the Maine election, which drew fewer than 5,500 voters from across the state four years ago. But Romney's recent activities suggest a victory is by no means assured, despite the natural advantages of being a former New England governor competing in a state he won with more than 50 percent of the vote four years ago.

On Saturday morning, he suggested that he's the only one in the race who isn't a Washington insider.

"I have never spent a day in Washington working," Romney said. "I expect to go there, get it fixed, and then go home. I'm not going to stay in Washington."

Some crowd members chanted, "Ron Paul," as Romney left the crowded gymnasium.

Maine's nonbinding presidential straw poll, which began Feb. 4, has drawn virtually none of the hype surrounding recent elections in Florida and Nevada, where candidates poured millions of dollars into television and radio advertising.

Romney and his allies spent a combined $15.9 million in Florida. But his campaign had placed only a small cable television ad buy airing Friday and Saturday, at a cost of several thousand dollars. But he sent surrogates to the state in recent days and hosted a telephone town hall in addition to Friday's campaign stop.

The state party will announce a winner Saturday evening, although a handful of contests will be held Sunday. Washington County, in the state's far eastern region, postponed its caucuses until next Saturday because of a snow storm.

Paul has been more active and scheduled three public appearances Saturday. There is reason to believe he won't make things easy for Romney.

The tea party, hardly a Romney ally, has exerted significant influence, taking over the GOP platform and helping to elect Gov. Paul LePage.

"Paul needs to show he can win somewhere," GOP strategist Phil Musser said. "My sense is a win in Maine for Romney would be nice. But to be honest, Ron Paul is camped out up there and he needs to win one."

Romney wins in Maine, but questions linger

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- Mitt Romney got a narrow win in Maine's Republican caucuses, but Ron Paul's campaign thinks the results could have been different if Washington County had not postponed their caucuses because of the snow.

Jesse Benton, national chairman for Ron Paul campaign, says he was disappointed the Washington County caucus was postponed to next week and thinks the Texas congressman could have picked up another 200 votes if they had been held Saturday.

Benton also says Paul is in the race until someone wins enough delegates to win the nomination: 1,144.

Washington County GOP Chairman Chris Gardner says that when the decision was made to postpone the caucuses, he didn't understand that the Washington County votes wouldn't count.

Maine GOP Chair Charlie Webster stresses the caucus votes were an "unofficial, nonbinding poll."

Does Mr. Benton also realize, had the Washinton County caucus been held Romney would also have gotten more votes?
