Hi all,

I was wondering if you have any kind advise for me. My fiance and I have been dating for 1 year and 6 months(July 2 is our anniversary) . I know that in order for you to request a Fiance visa is that you have been together for 2 YEARS! I was hoping to send the application on April, but that's only 1year 9months.Anyway, is there a way they can waive that requirement,or is there a chance we can write a letter or something?

Question #2.I've heard that you need to attach translated documents when submitting your packet. Does that has to be notarized or can we just do it ourselves? My boyfriend lives in Paris. Does anybody know a place where you can get them translated? OMG! I'm desperate! I don't know if this is something we can do it ourselves or do we have to go see a lawyer? Some people say we can just do it ourselves ,but I'm scared we screw up or something.

Thank you soooo much for taking the time to read this :-)

you only have to of met in person within the last 2 years. length or relationship doesnt seem to matter much.

cant answer question 2 but someone will.

you can do it without a lawyer if you can follow instructions, fill in forms, and ask questions on forums. read and re-read the guides on here... you will be amazed at just how quickly you pick it all up.

good luck

You only have to have met in the last two years, so you are good to go there. I don't know about the translations since my wife is from Canada and all her docs were in English.

With regards to Question # 1 - Yes, you can apply for a fiance's visa.. There is no such thing as you have to have known each other for 2 years.. Their requirements is that you should have SEEN each other or have been with each other personally for the past 2 years. With that, you have to submit proof that your fiance visited you like passport stamps, boarding passes and pictures of the 2 of you together.

The K1 visa process is actually very easy, and if your fiance doesn't really have any criminal record or any hindrances, you can do it on your own. There are some guides here in this website that will help you, and I'm sure that if there is something that confuses you, you can just go here and ask that question.

Here is the guide for a fiance's visa.. I'm sure you guys can do it on your own.

Regarding translating your papers, I'm not so sure about that, and I'll let someone else give some advice.

Good luck!! :)

First..you do not have to be together for 2 years. You need to have met in person WITHIN 2 years of filing your petition.

Second, when you are having docs translated, they need to be notarized or at the very least have them done by a company or individual who can attest to their accuracy ( like a certified translator). Somebody has to vouch for this and it is not you.

Three, most people do this themselves. It is not hard. JUST FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. And ask questions if you do not understand something. That is why we are here.

Four, try not to be desperate now. That is for later. :(

You should not do the translation yourself. It must be a certified traslation with the statement that this translation is a true and correct traslation of the original. My wife complained about the traslation that was done as she was competent to do it, but we hired someone. The cost is insignifficant compared to all the other costs during this process especially the shipping of documents back and forth at more than $100 a pop. So hire someone to do the translation and make sure that they follow the guidelines the USCIS wants as far as the statement regarding the traslation.

Good luck and enjoy the journey.

Dave

egarding question number 2: I did the translation myself, it wasn't notarized and I had no problem at all. That was for a K-1 and AOS in 2010.

There are many reports on VJ of either the Petitioner or Beneficiary translating their documents. As long as they include a statement of who did the translation and that the person is fluent on the original language and English they've not had any problems.
