I'm still waiting on full immersion virtual reality so I can go swimming with Brooke in the blue lagoon.

You do know she was a minor at the time.

And that most of these technology updates aren't backward compatible with the old shows & movies.

Yes I'm fully aware that the movies for adolescent boys in the 1980's were not in fact shot with high definition 360 degree 3-D cameras so that in the future when full immersion was possible they could be re-released in all their glory. I pulled a random movie from my teen years to make a glib comment - thanks for the opportunity to relay that it was not it fact a wish for virtual-pedophilia or a prediction of future television direction... Must be a slow day in the other threads.

My point was nothing more than taking the opportunity you provided to point out all of the complaining about "new formats" and such is silly because even if HD used 4:3 aspect ratio the old programs would still look a crappy as a frog in a blender on a 60 inch HD screen.

You just need to adjust your viewing habits. 90% of what I watch is widescreen HD and I'm happy as I can be. I like it even more when they show movies in full cinema format even though there are still small letter box lines on the top an bottom. I feel like I'm not missing anything now.

Start watching Nat Geo, Science, and History channel HD. Your eyes will be happy and you'll start learning stuff, even though a lot of it is about big foot and aliens.

Yeah, the Hitler Channel as we call it. He really did a lot of damage causing our country to be concerned with National Security with a huge defense budget. Stalin learned it was more fun killing people from different countries than his own, so started a 45 year long cold war, we responded and learned how to live with a nuclear warhead pointed at our heads.

But in good conscientiousness, went back to so-called conventional weapons instead with the usual loss or arms and legs fighting for undeclared wars for the freedom of countries we haven't even heard about. Man, was I brainwashed as an 18 year old kid, but getting my rewards now with a Veterans expressway, street, avenue, boulevard, and park in town. Forget about the VA hospital, its a dump.

Can watch all this stuff on Netflix now, instead of wasting a full hour, more like 39 minutes, but do miss all those GIECO commercials repeated over and over again.

Twas Thomas Edison that started this 4:3 ratio with over 50 years of movies and about 60 years of television so talking about 110 years of 4:3. My 60" HDTV is actually a 47" and watching 480P in high definition.

Just trying to keep the wife happy, she objected to my old Pansonic projector with 60,000 hour CRT's, lumens were really underrated on this things, changed the testing methods. We got a very watchable screen in daylight. Was quite a chore to switch over, rearranged the living room from lengthwise to widthwise to cut down the viewing distance. Then with all this HDMI stuff, had to buy more new components. Didn't want to part with my Sony DB1090 AV receiver so used the TV for the selection, another remote to use, but am feeding that with a optical cable if we want to blast our ears out. Then playing with ratios like crazy, sorry, a round ball has to be a round ball.

We are stuck with Charter in our town, live in a heavily wooded area and any kind of dish requiring a 21* clear area is out of the question. They can rob us even more for HDTV service even though they don't have to convert it, so went to an antenna for CBS, FOX, ABC, PBS, and NBC, just about the only stations with HDTV. So had to add a coaxially switch, did try a combiner, but got lots of interference between the cable and antenna connections.

On thing that really sucks is the media itself, wife got me used to closed caption, with these new movies, can't even understand what they are saying. And with sound surround, if you turn up the volume to hear the lingo, if someone drops a pin, the windows in your home blow out. So screw sound surround, added an audio compression circuit.

Use to read books, should go back to that.

Broke down and paid Charter an extra 5 bucks per month and got 110 channels of HDTV. Got updated cable box with HDMI outputs, really clear, full proportionate screen. Still not a damn thing on worth watching, but sure have fun scanning through all those channels.
