Hello! Once again I find myself turning to this board for help! My Canadian hubby needs to renew his canadian passport soon. We just finished our K-1 and AOS (YAY!) and are living int he United States. I have all the forms to mail, but we are wondering what happens to the US Visa that is now a part of the old passport? We worked SO hard to get it, and we don't want to screw anything up now. Thanks!

I had to renew my passport last year. I Had to send it to Ottawa, from memory. I had the hardest time finding a guarantor here, but managed in the end. I requested they return the expiring passport with the new one, and they did. They just clipped the corner off the front cover of the old one.

What Visa in the old passport are you speaking of? Have you completed AOS and has he his 2 year Green card?

Edited: To add I am from Canada, my profile shows New Zealand as that is where I was living when we applied for the K1.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

We finished the AOS, so I guess actually I am referring to the 2 year green card. It is attached to his expiring passport. Do you happen to know how you go about getting the US green card re-stamped into a new passport? Thank you so much. I think we are Ok with the guarantor as his mom can do it.

My Green Card is a separate bit of plastic, credit card size. The only thing I had in the old passport was the K1 Visa. That expired as soon as you enter the USA. They don't put the expired K1 in a new passport, as it expires after one use.

Did he get the green card in the mail as yet?

Here is a link that shows what that looks like, it says permanent resident and it is the green card

I renewed my passport recently and it is sent to the address on the passport Canada website. Have a look at it, even has the forms.

Here is the link for Canadians living in the USA.

http://www.ppt.gc.ca/cdn/form.aspx?lang=eng&region=USA

Its very easy. Everything sent by UPS and returned by FEDEX.

Next time post your question in the Canada section not the general section. - I will move this for you now.

I think she has the paperwork Inky, but I'm a little confused still as to what Visa she wants moved to his new passport. I am wondering if she has the K1 confused with his green card?

Yea the OP is confused with K-1 / I-94 and what a green card is. But they need none of that in the new passport if they are waiting on the green card in the mail. Cant really answer anything until they clarify that they are indeed confused as to what they are doing and realize they don't need a stamp etc. lol
