Hi everyone,

So my situation is kind of complicated. I came here in july as a visitor fram canada to visit my boyfriend who I. Had met online about a year before . I had visited him a few times previous and it was always very hard to say goodbye so we always discussed seeing each other again. When I came in july we talkd about me coming for my birthday in november and decided bcause of money related issues and because I didnthave a job at the time and because my passport was stamped with a return date of january 27th, that I would just stay for my birthday and leave after that. I found out in early october that we had gotten pregnant on september 24th, big surprise for both of us but we started to discuss getting married as I wanted to be marrid before I had a child and we went to the county clerk and did it there. We then spoke to a lawyer about me staying and are filing on Monday. When I arrived here he was in the process of moving (had alread signed a lease on a nw house) so my name isn't on the leas. Because I don't work and he pays the bills I'm not on any of the bills. But we most defnitely live together and have many pictures from previous vacations aswell as family pics from recently. I'm just wondering if we wil be given a hard time at the interview because we don't have any joint bank accounts and all that. By the time we are interviewed I will be about 8 months pregnant and don't want tobe totaly stressed out about everything. Its just to bad there's so many people that fake marriages to get greencards so it makes UCSIS skeptical of people like us who are actuall in alegitament relationship. Any support/ knowledge from people who have been there would be nice. My biggest fear is I will be denid nd have to leave the love of my life and our newborn baby :(

Not everyone has every piece of evidence. USCIS knows and understands that.

Is there a reason you aren't on the bank accounts? You don't need a social for that. Additionally, what about things like insurance? I'm assuming you probably have some sort of insurance if you are pregnant. You can also get affidavits from friends and family who know you both attesting to the validity of your relationship and bring those.

Can some of the utilities be changed over to your or joint name? Cannot hurt to make a phone call. I know that I was able, for example, to get my wife's name on the cable bill.

Relax! You won't be denied! You obviously care about your husband and family, and are therefore in a real relationship, and therefore won't be denied. I was really nervous too, but our interview lasted about one minute - they asked us each one question. Most people find the interview a mere formality. There is no amount of evidence that you need; the CO will probably just look at you and realize you are a real couple. There is really no reason to stress out. I promise! Don't read horror stories here or elsewhere and think that that applies to you. It doesn't. Best of luck, and relax as much as possible.

thanks for all the support. its nice to have some reassurance and "calm" responses. even my lawyer has said "you shouldn't have anything to worrry about" but "shouldn't have" isnt definite and being pregnant I'm extra stressed out as it is so you can imagine how this makes me feel. Is the interview really as bad as everyone makes it out to be? I can get my name on a bank account most likely that wouldn't be a problem since I don't need a SSN for that. Its just hard to get excited for the arrival of the baby when theres this huge road block that im not sure if we will be able to get thru

The interview is not bad at all - I said above for most people it is a mere formality. You can read reviews of your local office, and I bet you will find most found it rather anti-climactic and easy.

Eh, ours was more stressful than some but we still got approved. I think our IO just liked to grill people hard - we had to come back later in the day because the civil surgeon had forgotten to check a box on the medical exam, and during that time the same IO took back two other couples and kept them as long as she kept us (close to an hour). I wish we had brought more evidence (not necessarily joint accounts or whatever, but even things like emails or just ANYTHING) because our lawyer assured us with a child we wouldn't need to bring a ton and the IO wanted to see more. She also tried to get us to trip up and started asking about my daughter's paternity (even though she looks exactly like my husband!) and whatnot. But while it was stressful, it wasn't awful, and we did get approved within a week so really, try not to worry about it too much. You don't want to go in lackadaisically and not put in any effort, but don't spend all your time stressing over it either.

Personally, based on my experience, I'd bring anything and everything. If they don't want it or don't ask for it - GREAT! You can take it back home and it won't matter. If they do want more, you have it available. :)

keep calm for the health of yout baby. this will get sorted. not to worry.

there are things you can do to make process less stressful.

1. use VJ as a resource. read a lot. ask questions. become an immigration expert.

2. fill in your timeline and profile info. this will help us be able to better help you.

3. try to get some evidence reflecting financial co-minging (ex. name on lease, bank account, file taxes jointly) and cohabitation. mail addressed to both of you (ex xmas cards).

4. remember no evidence is too small. (ex my husband and i belong to the local food coop. our account reflects that our household = him + me.)

5. think outside the box. nontraditional evidence is good too. (ex i sent our monthly chore chart with a packet once.)

with a little bit of effort you will be able to lower your anxiety level and be prepared to breeze through the interview.

chin up! remember you are lucky to be with your husband during the process. lean on him when you need some extra strength.

Not all banks allow you to add someone without a SSN. My bank does not allow it so my husband can not be placed on my account. After I file taxes and get an ITIN along with his state issued id, then they will add him. You may need to find a bank that will allow you to have an account without the SSN. I know Bank Of America does not require a SSN.
