Wow! This is a really good stuff. I am working on my taxes right and very close to book my interview. You know what ?

I going to call the GST number and ask them to send me check instead of direct deposit. Because i will have the chance to send the cheque back, Well, I will close my banck account any way. I dont think I will be here when they start paying 2011..

If you haven't submitted your taxes, then there is an option NOT to apply for GST cheques for the next year I believe. That will save you a lot of hassle.

Removing Conditions

Sent package to VSC - 8/12/11

NOA1 - 8/16/11

So, in the mail today I got a notice stating that I am not eligible for OSTC sue to residency requirements, and a bill for the last 2 GST cheques I received. Thankfully, I have yet to send them back. Now, I am just going to cash them and then pay it back. That way I know for sure it goes to the right.

Pocheros, have you received anything in the mail like that yet?

After I moved I recieved the next 2 GST checks. I called both times to tell them AGAIN I moved to the US. Both times they told me to send them back, and I did. A couple months after that, I got a bill for both payments. I spent a long time on the phone arguing I didn't owe them a dime. That was so annoying! So watch out for stupidity

That is partly why I was waiting lol! I wanted to wait until I got confirmation that my address had been changed. Now that I know it has, and that I got my bill, I may as well cash the cheques and just pay the bill.

I am glad I got someone on the phone that knew what they were doing!

Nope, nothing in the mail. I mailed back my cheques and spoke to them on January 16th, too. Sorry to hear that the CRA didn't get it right for you :/ Whyyyy is it so hard for them to get this right? :bonk:

No, the CRA actually got it right for me :) I was waiting to get confirmation of my address change and cancellation of future cheques before I sent mine back. This makes it easier for me in the long run. This way, they will get their money back for sure and I will have record of it once my personal cheque clears.

Oh, I didn't notice that :) They didn't put interest on the amount you owe?

That's a smart way of going about it and keeping a paper trail!

Nope. It was rounded up a penny but I 'm not gonna fuss over that.

Just checked the mail and I got a letter from them saying I owe. I'm guessing that they simply sent this out before processing my mail, although their letter is dated March 2nd and I sent the cheques back on January 16th. Guess I'll give them a call on Monday.

Also, the CRA website said the international tax office moved to Ottawa and the lady on the phone told me to send my cheques to Ottawa, but the letter is from the old Quebec office.
