Hi,

I will be applying for my US passport soon in Atlanta and I wanted to know if someone else has applied through the regular process (not expedited) and how long it took for them to get it. On the travel.state website it says 4-6 weeks but i needed to know if it is sooner since my lease will be expiring end of March and I wanted to make sure I have it before I move. I will be applying for the passport around Feb. 10th. Thank you in advance...

I just need to get it before the end of March. I just needed to know if i can avoid paying for expedited if their regular process is fast enough. I will have about 6 weeks btwn the time I apply and when I have to move. Will that be ample time or will the regular process take longer than 6 weeks?

Jabulani,

The regular processing really depends on the time of the year. With spring break and summer coming, there are a lot of people applying for passports between February & March. I applied for my son's passport in Oct 2011 and it only took 2 weeks (regular processing). Earlier last year around March, I applied for my daughters passport and it took 4 weeks (regular).

If you have a trip in March, go ahead and pay the extra $60 for expedited so you dont regret it. But if you dont have any travel plans, then regular mail will do, probably about 3-4 weeks.

Jan 1999- F1 to USA

June 2006- AOS thru D.O.R.A.

Dec 2009- Oath. Finally a U.S Citizen

I am proud to be Tanzamerican!

Thanks for the info...I have a question about the section on the forms that say Travel plans...I do not really have concrete travel plans/dates as yet. Can i just give a rough estimate like say during summer or do i have to be specific with the dates and all?

Also is there a need to get the passport card or just the passport book is good enough? Thank you in advance.
