Considering the timing of this leak, it seems that the current administration is not so enthusiastic about charging into another war.

Agreed. And that's a good thing. Nothing good could possibly come out of going to war with Iran.

Yet, we just deployed another aircraft carrier to the area, and sent another 15,000 troops to Kuwait. You don't show up for a ball, and then tell people you are not there for the dancing.

You mean you don't put on a condom unless you wanna **?

I don't know if you had time to read the whole article, but it said some real interesting things - that upon entering the White House, Obama "drastically scaled back joint U.S.-Israeli intelligence programs targeting Iran." It also said that Israel regularly proposes joint Israeli-U.S. covert operations against the Iranian nuclear program, including assassinations, but that American officials keep declining the offers.

That all sounds encouraging and maybe it's an honest attempt to reign in Netanyahu. But we all know that we'll be first in line should Israel pull the trigger and then be attacked in return. We're not gonna stand down and let Israel deal with it alone. We'll be right there. Now we don't tell Netanyahu that we will and keep raising the prospect of him standing there with his pants down if he tries to go it alone. Not sure how long that will hold. He knows we will be there in the end.

But there are efforts going on that we're not seeing. The administration - specifically the state department - is working a number of strategies around the globe. All of a sudden, seemingly out of nowhere, we're re-establishing diplomatic relations with Burma after that country has suddenly released its political dissidents from jail. Our Secretary of State was just over there a few weeks back. Foreign policy is being conducted mainly out of the State Department again. As it should be but wasn't when W was running the show. Then, it was the Pentagon that set the tone for US foreign policy.

There are changes taking places in that country which have been accomplished without a single soldier being deployed and without a single bullet being fired. It's not that Burma is an awefully important place but what happens there is a sign that 1) diplomacy works and 2) that's the route we want to pursue. Bad for the MIC but good for the country.

Why are we even engaging in Burma at all.blink.gif

That's because Hillary is a little brighter and has bigger balls than Colin. She has Condi to thank for that. She was the first Secretary of State to show the professional corp where to shove it since General Haig.

You know you don't want Obama and Biden out there winging on their own. You see how badly that seems to work out.

I sometimes think that Joe isn't going to run on the ticket in 2012 and that Hillary might take the VP spot. She'd rip any GOP contender a new one on the trail - before breakfast. There's no man in the 2012 race with half the balls Hillary has.

We are not alone in the Universe either, but you don't see any Alpha-Centarian battle cruisers orbiting the Earth, do you?

I think that has a bit to do with what is and what isn't tangible.

Not going to war is not a sign of weakness. Nothing positive has been achieved by any nation that has gone to war. Didn't work for Germany, Italy and Japan and it didn't work for the US either. Not in Vietnam, not in Korea, not in Afghanistan and not in Iraq. Anyone that believes that going to war with Iran could produce anything positive hasn't paid attention or is just a lot slower on the uptake than the average human being.
