well since no one was too outraged (our enemies) about dragging our dead soldiers all over the place in mogadishu and the blackwater contractors in iraq i say who gives a damn

if their dead get pee'd on.

war is brutal and disgusting and it should remain so. lest we become too fond of it.

After looking at the video closer, those guys have pockets on their sleeves. The digital camies came out about a year before i got out and i don't remember pockets being on our sleeves. Are they sure they are Marines, i could be wrong though.

Right. But don't video tape your buddies doing it.

Hubby says yes he remembers pockets on the sleeves. He said they're the ones you normally sewed shuts and stole the buttons from when you needed buttons.

When people get all outraged of such a silly thing as taking a piss on the head of your enemy..... yes we know it's not acceptable and all that but do you really see this as some type of war-crime or serious

offense?

Let me offer and example of what war-crimes might really be like.

Tiger Force

Investigations of war crimes

In December 2002, Michael D. Sallah, a reporter at the Toledo Blade newspaper, obtained unreleased, confidential records of U.S. Army commander Henry Tufts. One file in these records referred to a previously unpublished war crimes investigation known as the Coy Allegation. To investigate this further, Sallah obtained access to a large collection of documents produced by the investigation held at the National Archives in College Park, MD.[6]

Sallah found that between 1971 and 1975 the Army's Criminal Investigation Command had investigated the Tiger Force unit for alleged war crimes committed between May and November 1967.[7] The documents included sworn statements from many Tiger Force veterans, which detailed war crimes allegedly committed by Tiger Force members during the Song Ve Valley and Operation Wheeler military campaigns. The statements, from both individuals who allegedly participated in the war crimes and those that did not, described war crimes such as the following:

the routine torture and execution of prisoners[8]

the routine practice of intentionally killing unarmed Vietnamese villagers including men, women, children, and elderly people[9]

the routine practice of cutting off and collecting the ears of victims[10]

the practice of wearing necklaces composed of human ears[11]

the practice of cutting off and collecting the scalps of victims[12]

incidents where soldiers would plant weapons on murdered Vietnamese villagers [13]

an incident where a young mother was drugged, raped, and then executed[14]

an incident where a soldier killed a baby and cut off his or her head after the baby's mother was killed[15]

Even as recently as 1982, with the Falklands War, mass media had only limited access to the area of conflict. News reporting was strictly controlled, there was no internet and there was no such thing as immediate access to news reports.

With the embedding of news teams in frontline units, the proliferation of digital media and the instant, worldwide access to information afforded by the internet, there is no such thing as control of news reporting any more.

We like to think we are civilised and try to apply that rationale to everything we are involved as a nation. But war is anything but civilised. War is basic. War is brutal. And applying civilsed standards to war can only lead to a degradation of our capacity to fight. You can't "civilise" war.

I would make a distinction between the Abu Ghraib incidents and this one. Abu Ghraib happened away from the frontline, in an environment controlled by Allied forces, on live PoWs. As such, it was despicable and inexcusable. Whereas this incident happened on the frontline, where the danger to life and limb is ever-present. Should it have happened? In an ideal world, no. Did it show disrespect for the dead Taliban fighter? Yes. Is it a war crime? Not even close.

Don't interrupt me when I'm talking to myself

Will you vote for Obama?

I recall when we heard about Abu Grahib it was all Bush's fault and Cheney's and Rumsfelds and Micheal Moore, Cindy Sheehan and Code Pink were all over it. It was on the front page of the New York Times for 52 days.

Where are they now?

A fish rots from the head.

I think George Bush lives in Dallas and Cheney is out hunting for a lawyer

About the video, If you are trying to "win the hearts and Minds" this is a pretty good way to shoot yourself in the foot. If we're not there to kill everybody or "win the hearts and minds" we need to get the f out.

Your assumption seems to be there was an expectation that this vid would be seen by the Afghans.

I doubt these guys intended that, though they should have.

If this was a case of U.S. christian soldiers being defecated upon, you would be up in arms, calling for a new invasion of some Islamic country.

Of course if our people were mistreated... oh I don't know like got their heads sawed off...... sure we would be pissed and I expect them to be pissed when they see their buddy taking a golden shower too?

It's called war dude, not tea party.

Are you afraid to offend or anger these enemy?

Are you worried we appear less than civil?

Are you concerned that "now" they are really, really gonna try to kill us?

Are you worried that now they might not afford proper care of our guys taken prisoner?

:hehe:
