why not just wait for the ssn and avoid the hassle? should only take a few weeks after poe.

you can always convert a non joint account to joint afterwards.

You can open the checking account before applying for A.O.S. I use Chase Bank, opened checking account and savings in both mine and wife's name before she had her social security number. Once the social security number arrived we went back to bank with the information, no problem.

Most of the big international banks will allow this,go to your bank or call and ask them.

you can also try Bank of America, they let my husband and i open an account there a while ago when i was only here on the VWP. We had no hassles at all with it, just needed my passport and i think my birth certificate as well.

Depends on the bank. We were able to open a joint account at Citibank but I had to be the primary person on the account.

We got Monreal's social security card like a week and some change after we filed. Why not just add her to your account after she gets it.

It will be a good if you can,I guess you can try.Some bank though wont let you have an account or joint account without a ssn ...But,theres no harm of trying...

We went through Wells Fargo. She initially told me I needed a SSN but was able to set up the account without one and I added it after I got it.
