Off the top of my head:

UK - US

Time-related:

Fortnight - no direct equivalent, but you be paid bi-weekly, which is the same thing. :)

Half past - get out of this habit! Better to say 'it's seven thirty', as you may be misunderstood if you say it's 'half-seven'

Car-related:

Lorry - Semi

Motorway - highway/freeway

Bonnet - hood

Boot - trunk

Miscellaneous:

Tap - faucet

Pavement - sidewalk (this I actually like!)

Lift - elevator

Flat - apartment

Terraced house - townhouse

Mobile - cell phone

Food:

Aubergine - eggplant

Coriander - cilantro

Courgette - zucchini

Babies:

Buggy - stroller

Cot - crib

Travel cot - pack 'n' play

Nappies - diapers

Dummy - pacifier

Other things to be aware of:

Most people are aware of the ou/o spelling difference (colour, etc.) but others are:

The double l vs. single l - i.e. travelled/traveled, cancelled/canceled

The s vs. z - i.e. apologise/apologize

Cheque vs. check

t vs. ed, etc. - i.e. dreamt/dreamed, whilst/while (and be prepared to be called pretentious if you insist on the former!)

A couple more I thought of over night:

capsicums = peppers

rockmelon = canteloupe

Oh and I say 'lounge' and 'loungeroom' as opposed to 'couch/sofa' and 'den'.

And I get funny looks from my father-in-law when I talk about money amounts ie I would say 'four and a half thousand dollars', or 'four thousand five hundred'. He tells me all the time - 'that's a funny way to say it - why wouldn't you just say forty-five hundred?' lol.

When our laptops need charging--

He plugs the lead into the mains. (That would be pronounced leed not led.)

I plug the power cord into the socket.

He's bemused we say "I need to run to the store", yet we always go in the car.

Thanks for that! I've been wondering for years what 'rocket' was.

Those are good. Before we met when we were chatting I had no clue what mince was so he explained. Then he mentioned a lorry and I had no clue. He assumed these were normal every day words for everyone so he was starting to wonder if I might be a bit ...um.. special. Oh and tea=supper. I just thought his mum really liked tea because she would always say she had to go make the tea. There are some words I can;t find an equivalent for over here like Numpty. Now if I ask what a word means he says, what's a window?!

My husband's family laughed at me when I said I was cold because all I brought with me was capris and skirts and no pants!

I did not understand until later that they thought I said I forgot to pack underwear!
