Immigration Attorney

I've been working for several months without a day off, and I am still very unsure about doing the paperwork myself for a K-1 Visa. I've decided to hire an Immigration Attorney. I did a Google search and found several at prices ringing from $995 to $2495. I'm not certain who to use or who to trust. They all promise results.

If anyone can make a recommendation for an attorney, send it in a PM or email me at Hangernaid@gmail.com. I know this site is not for commercial purposes and I don't want to have a thread deleted by violating any rules.

I appreciate the recommendations.

Here is a compromise for your piece of mind:

Do the forms yourself, using the VJ guides and questions you can post in this site; you will need to do it anyway even with an attorney. Once you are done, if you still feel strongly about an attorney, by all means, hire one and forward him all the info and work you did. If you are like most here, you will find that your case was not complicated and at that point, you will feel a little funny about giving someone sevreal hundreds/thousands when you have done all the work except putting the envelope in a mail box.

If you still want to go the attorney route, whoever you have contacted for those fees is taking you. A decent immigration attorney would charge around 500 for a K-1 work, considering the amount of work needed and the time it will take them to answer your few questions, check a few pieces of info with you (I've heard some have a cap and after that, new fees start to kick in) and mail it.

G'day Jim,

set a timer for 15 minutes...sit down and start working on getting it all done...FOR 15 MINUTES ONLY. Then get up and do something else. Each day, get 15 minutes of work down on the forms until they are finished, then do the same for gathering info and docs etc. Done in small chunks it is a breeze. You'll be amazed at how simple it is and how good you will feel for knowing that you have the mosy trustworthy person working on your case.

How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time! :star:

having already paid a lawyer who completely failed and put together a ridiculous package, not to mention had NO knowledge of basic geography of Canada (he was trying to send me to Calgary, and I am on the west coast, and he asked me "oh, is Vancouver closer?" wow.) I paid him about $4000 and guess what, I'm still paying for that since I had to borrow the money, and I ended up doing it again myself and paying again, myself, so if you want to save yourself the headache, I agree with the posters saying try not to use one, but totally up to you. :) best of luck, please ask for all the help you need here!

I suggest doing it yourself. It's a hassle, but you just have to review everything and get organized. I thought

about hiring an attorney and even am contemplating it for the Adjustment of Status, but when I looked over the forms it seems like the same amount of work for the doing the first step. Good luck to both of you. :)

Jim, Ukraine is an easy country to obtain a K-1. There is really no need for you to hire a lawyer as long as you are capable of filling out a form and collecting the proof you will need. Come on over to the Ukraine portal and we will help you through this from beginning to end.... You CAN do this. Please also read Gary's interview with the VSC director, it's very informative and I know it really helped me make up my mind that a lawyer was not needed. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/forum/80-k-1-fiancee-visa-process-procedures/

I think you will find the majority of the K-1 petitioners on this site chose not to use the assistance of an attorney. It's true that when someone does speak up about their lawyer its to complain how they screwed them or didn't do their job correctly and they were a waste of money. I think thats because this VJ community is kind of DIY and for me anyway wouldn't be the place I would come and proclaim what a great job my lawyer did for me.

Jim you are an adult making adult decisions for yourself. You know your situation, capabilities and schedule and we don't. If using an immigration attorney seems like the right thing for you then do it. I did my own and it cost me probably less than 20 man hours.

As far as recommendations I would contact the BBB or your local Chamber of Commerce. If you use another attorney for anything else ask them to make a recommendation.

Good luck!

Yes, sir good response.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
