im just curious for those people who had their interviews already..ummm did u have ur interview date before the expiration of ur NOA2? i just want to compare cos my NOA2 will expire on Jan.05,2007. im hoping for december interview.

1st met online (myspace.com) - february 2005

confirmation of our love - July 4,2005

1st met in person- february 18-26,2006

Filed 129F - March 18,2006 ( VSC )

NOA1- March 27,2006

NOA2- April 3, 2006

NVC- MNL2006595***

Petition returned to VSC - June 2, 2006

RFE - 2nd week of August

RFE sent -August 19,2006

I know I recently read something about the fact that it's pretty common for the validity of NOA1s to be extended, but I can now no longer remember if you need to fill out a form to do that or if the consulate does it without being told. I'm sure someone here has the answer. You should have an enlightened response soon. :)

In the meantime, would you mind filling in your official timeline by clicking on the "My Assistant" link just below the blue VJ navigation bar above and to the right? Once you click on that link, you can choose to "Add/Edit Timeline." Putting your information in there will help us all since VJ compiles statistics from the information and experience of its members. The more people whose information is included, the more accurate and helpful the stats will be! :D

January 2004: Met Laurent at the Bibliothèque nationale in Paris

February 2004: We became an actual couple

January 29th, 2006: I left France to return to the United States--AWFUL to say goodbye!

June 2006: Finally convinced Laurent that a K-1 visa would be more time-effective than trying to get an H-1

August 1st, 2006: The K-1 petition is finally in the mail and on its way to Nebraska...WooHoooo!! And yes, I remembered to attach the check! :-)

August 3rd, 2006: USPS online tracking shows that my petition (sent certified) was received at the NSC at 5:05am

August 14th, 2006: NOA1 received USPS!! (I-129F recv'd at CSC: 8/4; NOA date: 8/10; last touched: 8/11)

October 2nd, 2006: I MISTAKENLY thought we had an approval...False alarm...Back to waiting...

October 3rd, 2006: TOUCHED!!

October 4th, 2006: REALLY AND TRULY APPROVED!!! Email notification lists 10/3 as the NOA2 date.

Later that same day: TOUCHED...AGAIN! Hope that means I'm in a cozy box and moving to NVC this week...

October 10th, 2006: Received official NOA2 via snail mail.

October 19th, 2006: Case received at NVC!! AWESOME!!

October 20th, 2006: Case forwarded to Paris!! DHL says two shipments were headed that way. Must be in there somewhere...

October 27th, 2006: Received official receipt letter from NVC via USPS.

The the validity date of the NOA2 is routinely extended at certain consulates. Some consulates are NEVER able to complete the entire process in four months. It is routine and the petitioner or beneficiary do NOT have to fill out any forms for an extension. It's automatically done by the consulates.

AOS I-485

omg i was already hoping ill be having my interview this coming december.

The worst offender seems to be the Dominican Republic. It is said that it's taking up to two years to get an interview date for a K-1 visa at the US Consulate in the DR.

Based on your timeline and considering the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, I think January is more realistic for you.

Although the correct answers have already been given, this is a quoted written response that I received from the Embassy/Consulate in the Dominican Republc when I made an inquiry as to the 24-month wait time:

9 Fam 41.81 N6.2 Validity of a K-1 Petition

"An approved K-1 visa petition is valid for a period of four months from the date of DHS action and may be revalidated by the consular officer any number of times for additional periods of four months from the date of revalidation, provided the officer concludes that the petitioner and the beneficiary remain legally free to marry and continue to intend to marry each other within 90 days after the benficiary's admission to the United States."

This renewal will happen automatically until the Consulate can finally grant an interview.
