I believe that Hawaii is still part of the United States of America, thus no special documentation is required to travel to that destination.

Hawaii's our 50th state. But it would be a good idea to have their green card and passport on them.

Green Card, yes, because you are supposed to carry it at all times (not to open that debate but it's a little difficult to retrieve it quickly from Hawaii unless you live there).

Passport, no reason to carry it (and risk losing it).

As long as you have a gov't issued ID (GC and/or DL) and a plane ticket with a matching name, you are all set.

N-400

Feb. 12, 2016 - Sent N-400 to USCIS (3-year rule)

Feb. 19, 2016 - NOA1

Mar. 14, 2016 - Biometrics

June 2, 2016 - Interview - Recommended for Approval

If you don't have anything else (DL or state ID) then yes, a passport is fine. Otherwise, I personally wouldn't carry my passport around during domestic travel (especially a foreign passport that would be more difficult to replace from within the U.S.) but that's just me.
