My husband who is a us citizen file IR2 for my kids, they went for their interview today at the embassy but they were told to get a dna with me(mother)and to bring the original of my divorce certificate from my previous marriage. The embassy did have a copy already of that divorce certicate

My question now is can my daughter just get me a new copy from the court house since they have the information on file or do i have to submit the very fisrt copy of the divorce cerificate.I'm a little confused because i tought my lawyer have the original copy but when i ask her she says no,now i dont know what to do

Please your answers will highly appreciated

re: divorce certificate - IV unit is asking for a certified copy of the divorce certificate - an original will suffice, but most people get the certified copy FROM the entity that handled the divorce. There's probably some admin office or clerk's office locally that can sell it to you, just prepare to pay the monies to get it. It's never enough that what you submit is a copy, or a photocopy - it must be a certified copy, with a chop/seal/signature of some official attesting that what 'this' is, is a true record, a true record of the original. It's really hard for me to tell you how to get it, and the exact name of what to get - as I have no idea or clue which country the divorce was granted (in) .

re: DNA test - ouch. sorry it is what it is - you must comply soonish, pay attention to the date you were given to handle this matter.

Thank you so much darnell,i know where to go get a certfied copy,i was just a little confuse with the term "original" but i think a certified copy will do,by the way my country is senegal.About the dna,it's costly but i already did my part and they sent the kit for the test to my country,it was done real quick

Thanks again
