I live about 40 miles from the St. Albans VT USCIS. Does anyone know if i can deliver my wife's AOS packet in person or does everything have to go through Chicago?

Also, several women have told my wife not to waste money on the EAD as they received their green cards in about 3 months anyway. My wife hopes to work ASAP but i'm concerned that the wait for a green card might be delayed and perhaps we may not be as lucky as those other people who got their green cards in 3 months. Any advice would be appreciated.

Vermont does not process AOS so you must send it to Chicago. Once it is received in Chicago it will go on to Missouri. EAD is free, so why not apply now just in case the Greencard takes a while?

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

EAD is free there is no change in price when applying for it with the AOS package.

No you cannot " hand deliver it " unless you want to walk all the way to Chicago. Please see the instructions for the correct mailing address.

The fees for EAD and AP are waived when filing with the I-485 to adjust status. There is no waste of money. AOS will cost you $1070 with or without the EAD and AP applications.

waste money on the EAD - can talk with these ladies, remind them that EAD when submitted with an AOS package, is FREE? soon?

re: walking it over - you can try, but no one will let you in the building.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

Thanks everyone. I wasn't aware that there was no fee for the I-765 as I was going by what I saw on the checklist at http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

A couple other questions though, as my new wife is getting a lot of advice from others who have gone through the AOS process. I'm a bit wary of what they say is required to file. Here are some things I'm not sure about and would greatly appreciate some clarification:

1. Copies of my divorce records. Are copies of these required? My wife (she's applying for AOS) was not previously married so I know she doesn't have to provide anything.

2. My passport pages, photos, etc. I know my wife must provide her's but people are telling her that I do too (did not see that on the checklist).

If there's anything else that's missing from the "checklist" etc. I'd greatly appreciate any verified advice. Thanks again!

Well stop listening to thos people and follow the AOS guide on VJ. They are giving bad information and incorrect information.

The AOS process is about the immigrant not the US citizen. No need for divorce records or passport copys etc from the USC.

The only thing the USC does is fill out the 864 and provide supporting documents for that.

You won't be able to hand deliver it.

You don't need your divorce records or anything for the I-485 - follow the exact instructions for the I-485 that list exactly what is and is not needed.

Your timeline does not say what visa your spouse came on, but I am assuming based on where you posted that it was a K-1 or K-3. As such, you should have provided your divorce decree and your information when you filed the I-129F.

If you've posted in the incorrect forum and your wife is adjusting from another visa like a tourist visa or student visa, then you'll need to file the I-130 and you would need your divorce decree and information for that.
