I prefer a syrup sponge, but the non-tinned variety is okay.

I have a Brit friend who lives in Tucson. He's a little eccentric and carries around a can of spotted ####### in his jacket pocket. Occasionally, he says, he enjoys concealing the spotted ####### and then whipping it out for all to enjoy.

Yes. You don't want one with irregular spots.

And as with all puddings, size DOES matter but it really has more to do with its all around size, and not how tall it's made. Though horses for courses and some like a smaller one.

I've found that with certain delectables, size does matter. You also need to know where to find it. If you have to spend a lot of time looking, you're in trouble.

Well, it used to.

Just like the thread count of colour on a kilt,

the measurement and placement of the spots USED to indicate which region it was made (in).

That's not the case anymore, alas, due to heavy adoption of automation and artifical casings.

I was in the UK recently and read about the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA). I wonder if there should be a similar campaign for real spotted ####### (CAMRSD).

I don't know what spotted ####### Darnell's eating but as far as I know British spotted ####### retains its entire natural casing, unlike its American analogues (for the most part).

CAMRA, in my opinion, is a microcosm of everything that is truly wonderful about the UK. That, and the competition where the chase a cheese down the hill.
