Hi guys, good morning!:) As I heard from many of you here, for the AOS interview the applicant is required to bring the originals of all docs submitted as a part of AOS package. I am waiting for my interview to be scheduled, and asked my parents to mail my Birth Certificate. They tried local mail services, DHL, Pony Express, etc., and none of them would take original ID documents such as passports, birth certificates, etc. They said it’s a rule for currier services in my country (Russia). Local county administration suggested they can do an Apostle of the copy, but will CIS office be okay with that?? Did any of you go though the same experience? Thank you!:)

The purpose of the originals ( birth cert as example) is to ensure that the copies submitted earlier were not fakes. However, I did not need them for my wife's AOS. They were mostly concerned about a bonafide relationship at that point. Like photographs and such. I would think that an apostle version should be sufficient, after you explain why, if they even ask, should be ok.Your original passport should be with you. How else did you enter the US?

Thank you very much for the response! I do have my passport of course as well as all other docs, I did not just secretly swam across the ocean!:)lol. Coming here, I did not have an idea that life will turn out this way, and I’ll be doing AOS… So of course I didn’t bring the Certificate with me. I hope they’ll be okay with Apostle as you said!!! Thanks again

I was asked to show the original birth certificate with the translation in my interview, so there is a possibility they will ask for that.. My parents FedExed me my original BC, and just wrote "documents" in the description for the mail slip.

I second this approach. Why in the world would you say on the slip that you're mailing specific documents - for the world to see? I mailed by original birth cert from Russia to the U.S. with Pony Express, and they delivered it just fine. I brought a sealed PE envelope to their office and wrote "documents" on the slip and it went as smooth as that.

While relying on the apostlile version, I would recommend staying on a safe side and having the original with you when you go to the interview.

I was going to say, if I were about to send something like my birth certificate over mail (which I will have to do in the next couple of weeks) I probably wouldn't mention what it was, so that everyone knew what was inside it.

If it was me, and this is what I will be doing, I will just be putting 'documents' or something similar on mine and leaving it at that. I would risk putting anything else on it.

With just this, you should have no problems whatsoever.
