That would have been about what 10 years ago?

What was you're Dad's situations? I'm assuming he was able to demonstrate strong ties to get approved. Maybe you're approval was kind of piggybacked onto his. You know they figured since he had the strong ties and you were traveling with him that you weren't likely to stay behind when he returned.

12 to be exact. As far as i can remember, consul just asked for his IBP ID and reason why we want to go to the US. Like i said, we got lucky.

IDP? I don't know that that is. I'm not sure I'd say lucky so much as you didn't fit the profile (at that time) of someone who is expected to go TNT once they land at the US.

Since he was leaving a spouse behind I'm sure that helped. Not that we could prove it but I'd bet my right arm that you wouldn't have been approved if you weren't traveling with your Dad.

It was also pre-9/11 the time i was approved.. less strict. you're right, no way to tell if i'd get a visa if i applied by myself.
