Hi, i went to get a extended tourist visa because i wanted to stay longer than the ESTA allows. I went to the UK American Embassy and was denied my visa and now i am not allowed to use my ESTA visa. Which means i cannot go to the US at all without applying again to the American Embassy. I was denied because i could not show enough ties to the UK. I should the woman interviewing me that I own a house, but because i said i have rented my house, that went against me. I also showed them i have a good amount of savings and was still refused. She said she wanted to see a letter from my employer showing my career break from work ... i did not have this on me.

So i was denied the extended tourist visa and now because of that cannot use my ESTA i was soooo upset, i was crying my eyes out. Now i am so scared that i will not be able to go and visit my boyfriend in the US. I want to apply again but wanted some advice from you guys. Next time i go i was only going to ask to go for 2 months and i will bring the career break letter from work.

Because you failed to show any strong ties to your country last time, that's why your visa was denied.

Next time, go with letter of employment and you should have no problem.

Although, I am a little worried about your case because they might question you how can someone being full-time employed get a break from her employment for such a long time (longer than ESTA allows 3 months)

How will you support yourself?

Why did you change your mind to only stay for 2 months this time when you wanted to stay more than 3 months last time?

You see there is a red flag there, so you'd better be prepared to answer these questions.

I just saw that you are K-1 visa, did you file before going for the interview? If you have filed K-1 Visa application, I can guarantee that your B2 tourist visa will automatically be denied no matter what.

Where i work we are allowed to request a career break for up to year if we have been there for a long period of time. I had a large amount of savings to support me and plus i have a second income because i rent my house. This is why i was surprised to be denied. But now fearing applying again.

Hya I asked my employer in 2009 for a Sabattical Leaving for 6 months and got a B1/B2 for 10 years without any problem almost on the same case of Mia.Gaga with a house here in the UK and a good saving so try to ask your employer for a Sabattical Leaving!

Best of Luck

Can you get a letter showing that you are permitted to leave work for an amount of time with an expected return date? Plus copies of your lease and receipts from paid rent? Do you have a car note? cell phone bills? any other ties? I once used a wedding invitation and a doctor's apt. card as proof of ties.

Good luck.

Few people get 4+ months of paid vacation...and your obvious desire to spend an extended amount of time with your 'family friend' strongly suggests a looming change of mind, marriage and AOS...this salient fact won't be resolved nor the VOs fooled by you suddenly requesting a visit for 'only' two months, since on your most recent application, you expressed a strong interest in remaining beyond that allowed by the VWP...and the VOs know that a B2 visitor is routinely admitted for six months, not two, so this oft tried strategem will not likely succeed.

Leave it 6 months and then try ESTA again.

Your sooo lucky ... yes i am going to ask my empoyeer for a letter. I got denied my visa at the start of this year and was thinking of applying again in Febraury, do you think this is a decent amount of time to wait to apply?

You are mistaken about ESTA.

You did update ESTA and it declined you?

Good that you didn't apply for K-1 yet. That would be automatically denial of B2.

I think you should not worry too much. Get all proof of strong ties ready, particularly the letter of employment break and apply again.

You can apply as soon as you want. Don't change your story, don't change the length of your stay from the last interview.

The interviewer specifically told you that they want to see the letter of employment break. That might have been the only reason why your visa was denied.

This time you will have it and last time I checked, UK is not high fraud country either.

Good luck!

From others in the same situation, if you give it time ESTA will OK you whilst your chance of a B2 remains minimal.

Yes the ESTA decined me :(

Letters from anyone are just.....letters....they do not prove anything more than somebody sat down at a word processor and typed out a letter....any letter is NOT legally binding on anyone, carries NO penalties for non-compliance...and medical appointments can be changed 3 seconds after obtaining a visa...what value are those? Zero. Sure, you may have returned via ESTA...but now suddenly you need a 4 month stay instead of 3...something is not being revealed....and why can't said boyfriend come to the UK? (besides the usual stories that airlines only have flights FROM the UK to the US....or....'he's so busy at work, he cannot take off' (which, if for 4-6 months, would be true...because we don't get 4-6 months of paid vacation from our jobs).....
