IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

.png

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

Poor imitation, aye right.

With a deferential nod to the Irish poster above, we shall equate the Ulster fry and the Irish breakfast to be very similar. And both have fadge and wheaten or soda. Can't beat that with a big stick.

And to the poster who wonders if we buy/cook our own food. Indeed I do, in fact, I am making a Shepherds pie tonight. Bought the spuds today at lunchtime.

Just have to say...Shepherd's pie is one of the greatest meals ever!!!!

I totally agree with the putting on weight part... I'm ashamed to say I put on nearly 40lbs in the last two years! This year I decided to do something about it though and have lost 10lbs in the last 5 weeks on Weight Watchers. I'm sticking with it (although its hard at times)! :)

I also agree with the portion sizes here... We live in NJ, so are surrounded by so many diners and so many great restaurants so have had to cut it out alot lately. Russ and I love to go out to eat though so now we just fit that in as an occasional treat every now and again.

The one thing that has both helped and hindered me at the same time in the past 2 years is being at home all of the time. Since moving here I have set up my own company and work from home. In doing so, I have the Food Network on quite a bit during the day and have developed a real interest in cooking! Back home, pre packaged meals are so readily available but here, when cooking at home I have to make so many more things from scratch but I love it now! Since coming here I have learned so much!

I do miss things from home from time to time though (cheese, good bread, sausages etc...) but the longer I'm here the more great finds I discover. Wegman's especially has been great in helping me get my British food fixes when needed!

I was 86 lbs when I arrived, now I'm about 90 I think. Last I checked, anyway. Guess it helps not being able to eat the huge servings here all in one go and boxing it home to eat at my own leisure. Portions here are HUGE! If it wasnt for my husbands aversion towards fast food, I would be eating a lot more dollar meals just because of the great value and the fact that they fill me up.

I arrived here about 100 lbs now I am about 105 lbs. I am pretty good with my diet and try to avoid the ridiculous food here. I have not gone to mcdonalds in a year and i always have carrot and celery sticks in the fridge when i get hungry. I actually want to gain a little more weight!
