J2 Visa - EAD Interview - Is this really an interview or do they only take fingerprints?

Hi,

My husband and I will be moving to the US early March this year. He will be on a J1 visa and I on a J2. I am planning to apply for an EAD as soon as we arrive in the US. I have seen a lot of conversations about EAD in this forum but could not find a clear answer to my questions.

On official web sites it says that you get invited to an interview a couple of weeks after you filed the I-765 form. I read a lot about biometics in different forums. Is this the same? Does the interview for the EAD only exist to take your finger prints or do they really interview and ask questions? (If yes, what kind of questions do they ask?)

Thanks in advance!

  • 3 weeks later...

I am just going through the same process - I´m here under a J2 and applied for my work authorization.

You can e-file it or send all documents incl. photos and a check for the fee per post. I e-filed and then you get an appointment to have you fingerprints and a photo taken. If you file per post then you don´t have to get biometrics done and will get your card within 3 months. What I saw so far e-filing takes on average longer than filing per post.
