Hey all!

So after my biometrics appointmet a few weeks back, I received my letter with my interview date and such for early February.

I am almost 100% positive about this, but figured I might as well run it by u naturalization gurus out there. I am currently 34 years old, I initiated this whole process 4 years ago. I do not need to provide proof of SSR, correct?

If I understand this correctly, I only need to provide this proof if I am or have been between the ages of 18 and 26 during this entire citizenship process...

Am I on track here or am I waaaay off?

Thanks again for all ur input!!!

Good info, thnx!

Nah. I was only in US for a couple of months while I was 26. I was going to school at that time and I was here with an M1 student visa. After I was done I flew back home and didn't return until 2007, at the age of 30, at which time I started the whole green card process via my wife...

I've always lived out of US, I just came to school here for a bit in mid 2000s...

If you want to give yourself the peace of mind, download the form from here (http://www.sss.gov/PDFs/PrinterFriendly/status.pdf) and send the request to SSS. They will send you a letter in SSS letterhead saying that you are not required to register for SS. They responded very quickly in my case.

I bought the letter with me to the interview but was never asked anything about selective service.

Stepdaughter fell exactly in that age class, but we typed in N/A because she is a female. The key in your case is if you are a male within that 18 to 26 year old age class and became a LPR during that time period. Then you definitely had to register.

If not, you also type in N/A and go on to the next section. Seems like only the USCIS takes this issue very seriously, no way would Bush reinstitute the draft for his private war against Iraq. Would have been political suicide for him when enlistments went way down. Instead he hired private crooked contractors to fight his war, and these guys didn't even have to follow the rules of engagement. If in the US military, had to have a least three bullets in your chest before you could fire back.

You don't even have to be here legally. All aliens with exceptions that meet the age and gender criteria are required to register as well, not just LPR's.

Technically, three types of male between the age of 18 and 26 are required to register: US citizens, LPRs and illegal immigrants. One is exempted if in the US on a valid non-immigrant visa such as F1, H1B etc. The requirement of illegal immigrants is a gray area since they are not in the US on a valid visa obviously, yet the government can't really put in any specific language to require illegal immigrants to register, doing so means the government endorses illegal immigration. This becomes an issue when an illegal immigrant gains legal status and eventually applies for citizenship.

Could be a tad practical on this matter, but again are dealing with idiots that helped the president get elected.

"If you are an immigrant male (documented or undocumented) living in the United States, age 18 through 25, you are required to register. You may submit your registration to the Selective Service by filling out the form below and clicking on "Submit Registration." Non-immigrant males living in the United States on a valid visa are NOT required to register."

An absolute requirement in filling out the form is to provide your social security number, now how is an illegal going to get that??? Without that, your form will not be accepted. And besides as an illegal, if you don't register, what are they going to do about it? Deport you?

Wife and stepdaughter didn't receive any notice to register when they came here or got their EAD, but sure did when they received their LPR cards. We went through that but determined they did not have to register since they were female. Now with the ERA, why is it this way?
