My wife has her interview appointment set up for Guangzhou, but we have a few questions. We are getting a CR-1 visa by the way.

For people who did the medical exam in Beijing- is there a reason to choose the foreigner's hospital over the Hepingli one? My wife lives near there and doesn't like the place for some reason and is convinced the foreigner's one will be better for this.

If she needs to get vaccines, is it necessary to do this before leaving China? I'd assume so, but would just like to be sure. This will also influence her decision to do it at the foreigner's hospital. I'd also assume any required vaccines wouldn't be included in the fee for the examination, right?

It's not clear to me what forms we need from the consulate in Guangzhou for this. Does she actually need to wait for forms to arrive from them, can she get them online, or does the hospital actually have them?

The email that came to us with the appointment notice (we are doing electronic processing) led me to this (http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3739.html)

then this (http://travel.state.gov/pdf/medical/GZO-MED-MULT-0005-1111.pdf)

which mentions this OF-171 form (http://guangzhou-ch.usembassy-china.org.cn/uploads/images/ssYx8GoprISL96T9ttMmJw/7._OF-171.pdf). This form says she needs to submit the DS-2053 and other medical forms during the medical exam. Where do these come from?

In addition there's a GIV-24 (family composition sheet) mentioned there that I am wondering about as well.

From the looks of that form, she is supposed to bring a lot of the original documents (birth certificate, marriage books etc) with her, then they will get sealed up with the medical exam results, which she takes to the interview. Is that the case?

Phew. Thanks in advance to anyone who reads through all of that :)

We'd really like to get this done before the Spring festival starts.

GUZ IV forms http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/forms_and_packets.htm

There's a medical forms pack you/she can download from there.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.

"You should arrange to undergo your medical examination at the hospital indicated below. Medical

examinations conducted at other hospitals will not be accepted."

There are only 4 hospitals that can do the medical, you must go to that place on the list, no exceptions. It appears only one place in Beijing, the Hepingli one is approved and authorized. they do have the medical forms for you at the authorized hospital, just bring your interview appointment letter.

Hospital has forms, but you can always go the GUZ website and download everything under IV Packet. but the medical forms cannot really be filled out before the hospital, it has a lot of Doctor involved stuff.

My wife just completed her medical in Beijing. Since you are doing electronic filing you will not get OF-171. See Medical Instructions.

Beijing has only 1 hospital for the exams: Heping Li Beijie and this hospital does have the forms she will need.

When she calls the hospital for the appointment, have her ask about required injections. The wife says since you are doing CR-1, your spouse will need to get required injections before the interview.

My wife required 4 shots and they can not be administered on the same day. Since your wife lives near Beijing, that will be a plus. BUT: The shots YOUR wife requires will depend on her age. Hospital should be able to tell your wife the requirements.

My wife took these to the hospital:

1. 2 copies (printouts) of appointment letter.

2. Passport and 1 copy of passport bio page.

3. 4 visa type photos.

If you like, you can cut and paste these instructions for your wife:

1,护照原件和复印件一张(只要第一页)。

2,两寸照片4张。

3,预约信两份(每份打印第一页和第二页)

If your wife has a record of prior injections have her take that too.

For what it's worth, my wife said the Beijing hospital was "very good, easy, recommended."

Hope this helps.

Good luck to both of you!

Thanks very much, all who replied! Just one more question - on the appointment letter I see this in the list of documents needed for the interview:

1 - IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION PART 1

1 - IMMIGRANT VISA APPLICATION PART 2

Is this the DS-230 part 1 and 2? Should I just make sure she has original copies of everything, including the USCIS stuff?

yes, this is the DS-230.

Gentle reminder - if you did NVC Electronic Processing -

need to submit to GUZ IV, on document intake day :

1. original I-864 with your signature WITH the supporting income/tax documents on YOU and

2. original DS-230 with her signature AND the original white books.

Basically? everything you sent in to NVC for EP? GUZ IV wants the originals.

It's not January anymore, but the topic is still at hand...

If all goes well we'll be doing the interview and medical thing early next month. That being the case....

How early can we go for the medical parts? Only after the interview is scheduled?

It looks like a grip of passport photos will be needed through the remainder of the process... would 12 be enough or ought we go directly to 24?

Any special gotchas to be worried about with the medical exam portion of the process?

Damn... I should have read this thread more closely... I have Sue's passport here in the States. I'm going to have to send it back to her in China via the fastest method available so she can do the medical exam. Do they actually do anything with the passport or do they just want to see it?
