Can the world please agree on one date format? Please?

Todays date:

1/7/2012

7/1/2012

1/7/12

7/1/12

01/07/2012

07/01/2012

2012/01/07

and whatever the hell the julian date is...I could go on and on.

I was just looking at a post and the poster's timeline said her interview was 08/02/2012 and I'm thinking "how in the hell does she know she will have an interview in August?"

I don't even care what the format is, just inform me and I will comply. I'm not trying to adopt the metric system or anything difficult like that just a standard format of expressing a date in time.

Who should I talk to about organizing this?

I'll start with my dog he seems like he's in charge.

PS. we got married on 11/11/11...HA!

I still write the date "wrong for the USA" sometimes. I think it should be ascending order: day, month, year.

military method - day month year, with month spelled out. 8 jan 12

I would agree with this format as it seems to me to be the least confusing. However it's not even consistent in the military. At Parris Island they taught me to write the date descending with no punctuation like this 120108.

So should we start a petition to have it changed globally? It shouldn't take long, suggest we start with the UN and take it from there.
