Visit/tourist Visa for LPRs spouse

My husband is a green card holder and has applied for my immigration i-130...but we are waiting in line since our priority date is 24th March 2011! and F2A for the month of January 2012 in June 2009, which means there's still a long way to go

is it possible for me to get a tourist/visit visa to visit my husband in the US? what are the chances? because my husband was visiting recently and we had to get some of my papers notarized, so we went to the American Embassy and my husband asked the guy who attended us if we could apply for my visit visa since green card holders immigration wait time is long. The guy said yeh you can, but you can't really tell if the interview officer would give it or not, all your luck.

the thing is i'm currently unemployed, looking for a job. but i am a a legal resident of Bahrain. That's where i live. I have an entry and exit permit. me and my husband researched and found that we need to show strong evidence of why would i return back to Bahrain. I just want to give it a shot.. If, God forbid, they reject my tourist visa will that affect my immigration process? the embassy guy said you should apply and see since your wait time is long so there is a chance you might get it, but then again it depends on the officer.

i need help! please please... if i get positive replies from this i might go ahead and give it a shot, cuz my husband thinks i won't get it cuz of the evidence they need but i don't want to sit and wait for much long, i wanna take a chance.

The guy you talked to is right, it will depend on what ties you can show to Bahrain to indicate that you must return. Although you do not have a job, do you have a lease/mortgage? Bank accounts? Family ties?

It will all depend on the officer but NOT applying for a tourist visa is the surest way of not getting one. it will not affect your immigration process if you are denied a tourist visa

Hi there! We have the same concern though I am not applying for any immigration/petition papers. My husband just wants me to visit US and meet our family and loved ones there. Since we are not living in the US, Tourist Visa is the best option so I will meet our family there, not knowing the hard ship and complications of getting one. I have tried applying last year but I was denied due to the fact that I am married to USC. I brought many documents to prove my strong ties in my country but the CO didn't bother looking at them just knowing my marital status to a USC. I bought with me almost two kilos of documents (that was heavy huh)! We are trying again on March. Whatever the result I will be thankful enough. There is no harm in trying once again. I hope and pray that all goes well with you. I encourage you look at the best options for you both. God bless!

Once you have immigration intention (married to LPR, USC...), there is almost no chance you will get any kind of non-immigrant visas.

The VOs will (rightfully) wonder why you would abandon your spouse or attempt to change status to some silly classes at a community college; in other words, do just about anything to stay put....and that bar will be awfully high, higher than kilos of papers, since no paper guarantees nor controls the actions of anyone, especially papers from another country. Far too many LPR spouses have 'forgotten' to return, something that even the newest of VOs already knows.

ooohh! i'm getting mixed replies...now i'm confused :S

the thing is my husband can apply for naturalization this july....i've read in some forums and also one of my relatives became a citizen in 2.5 months!!! depends on the service center you send your docs. to they said... so should i just wait and see ??? my husband might get it soon...and i've heard as soon as he becomes a citizen they'll start processing our case immediately...

any suggestions??

That is largely true...which is yet another reason you will not likely get a B2 visa, because the VOs will assume (correctly) that you have that infamous mind change that befalls so many foreign spouses and remain in the US to change status once he naturalizes.

Me and my wife are in the same boat as you and your husband are. You can anyways try for the visit visa. Its your luck if you get it or not. There no harm in trying. My wife is also trying. If she does not get it, its not the end of the world. Your husband should upgrade the i-130 to spouse of US citizen, once he gets his citizenship and that would speed up the process tremendously. The average waiting for citizenship applications is 5 months. It depends on the service center as well. If your husband applies with all relevant documents and the processing is smooth, he should get it under 5 months or less.
