Hi, My fiance has is interview for his K-1 Visa this month in Ghana. He has a son who is included on his application, but will not accompany my fiance to the states when he leaves. Instead we plan for his son to come later on in the year. Does anyone know if he needs to bring his son to his interview?? His son is 4 years old. Thanks.

Two choices:

- Have the son come to medical and interview and get visa issued. Son would need to travel within 6 months of visa issuance.

- Do "follow to join" within one year. Son will have medical and interview later. I doubt there wil be a grilling for the 4 year old son, but he will need to show up at the embassy at some stage.

Maybe. Depends on the consulate. Our youngest son, age 13 at the time of visa issuance never set foot in a consulate, was never interviewed for the visa. In Kiev children under age 14 are not interviewed.

Read the procedures for that consulate

No need to attend the father's interview but the child will have their own interview when they are ready to obtain their To Follow K-2 visa.

What exactly does the bolded statement above mean? Does this mean he submitted a visa application to the consulate for his son? Or does this only mean his son was listed on the I-129F petition?

If no visa application has been submitted to the consulate then his son does not need to attend the interview. If a visa application was submitted then his son will at least need to pay the visa fee and have the medical, but it's up to the consulate whether or not he needs to attend the interview.

12/15/2009 - K1 Visa Interview - APPROVED!

12/29/2009 - Married in Oakland, CA!

08/18/2010 - AOS Interview - APPROVED!

05/01/2013 - Removal of Conditions - APPROVED!

Only the 129f has been submitted, which includes his son. In Ghana, you submit the visa application at the interview, so I dont know whether the son needs to submit his paperwork at the interview, or closer to the time he will actually travel which will be more than 6 months after my fiance.
