I received my NOA2 I-797 form in the mail today. I was reading it and it states that the I-129F petition was approved and "SENT TO THE LISTED CONSULATE" I do not see any listed consulate on the form nor do I know if this is the embassy where the interview takes place or the NVC?? I was also assigned an A205 031 191 number and it is listed above the "beneficiary's name" my fiances name what is this number?

Thanks

The number above the beneficiary's name is their Alien number, you will be asked for this number when completing forms in the future. Also,The approved petition will go to the embassy in your country that processes K-1's. On the way to the Embassy it will go through NVC.

So you are saying that the approval goes to Bogota the US embassy where my fiance goes for the interview and at the same time to NVC? So in theory i can just call Bogota for the case number and schedule the appointment and do not need an action from the NVC?

USCIS is one thing. They just approve it but all i-129f petitions go through NVC regardless what it says on your NOA2.

Case number starts with 3 letters. If you decide to call NVC you'll have a better idea whether or not it's on its way to Bogota.

Here's a link to a VJ embassy info - that's Bogota: http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=Colombia&cty=Bogota

And here's your embassy's instruction packet: http://photos.state.gov/libraries/colombia/231771/PDFs/English_K1K2Packetdec7.pdf

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

The petition will go through NVC before it goes to the US embassy. From what i remember it seems to take about a month, give or take, to get through NVC.

Me and my fiance got NOA2 on Dec, 16 2011, and it says it will goes right to the Embassy also...But it's impossible without NVC case-number and NVC checking...So, anyone knows why theese problems came up in theese days and what to expect? We're gonna send copy of NOA2 to the NVC mail, but I guess it won't give anything really, we have to wait and just hope that petition won't be lost or what? Why they fooling us by telling they sent it to the Embassy...???

Quite confusing I'm sure - but USCIS have been doing it for a while.

Black on white(from travel.state.gov): "After USCIS approves the petition, it is sent to the National Visa Center (NVC) for processing, and NVC will send it to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where your fiancé(e) will apply for a K-1 nonimmigrant visa."

And "Once the U.S. Embassy or Consulate where you, the foreign-citizen fiancé(e), will apply receives the petition from NVC, it will provide you with specific instructions(...)"

You can call NVC too and inquire about your case(talk to a human, the electronic system doesn't work with i-129f/K1).

Moomin,

now USCIS send new information (Post desicion Activity, online status), like a:

"Your I129F was approved on...date...it will be sent to the NVC or to the Department of State (Which is Embassy), but we are all know, that it's impossible to avoid the NVC on this way...So, some guys just getting troubles like our couples and another ones from this forum. I really don't know what to expect, We talked to the NVC operator, she told to call back next week and they will make researches, so we're gonna call back. Also, 2 of my girlfriends from russian fiancee forum had this problem, and they finally found out their documents in the NVC in 3 weeks, and then got case number very fast and documents were sent to the Embassy.

Well, we will hope.

DOS is not the embassy. Department of State(hereunder NVC) determine which embassy your petition goes to, prepare it(assign case number). Here's their neat webpage: http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_1750.html

They also go by "The office of visa services, Department of State". Since yours is a K1 they won't ask for nothing more at this stage so the petition only has a short "layover" at NVC.

Your approved petition will swim through NVC just like your friends' cases did :)

Moomin, thank you so much for your attention and help,

Well, it means that they still didn't received our petition in NVC, I hope that this DOS doesn't mean the AP or some terrible things like that. So, how do you think, what time should we be oriented at? couple more weeks? (no matter that in NOA2 it says they sent it to the Embassy). (F)

You're welcome.

If you received NOA2 December 16 you could try calling NVC. Even if you have emailed them, try calling every other day or so. Be prepared to answer a few questions(probably your WAC or EAC number, birth dates, approval date or similar; it differed every time I called them). If they can't find your petition it means they either haven't received it yet or that it's in a pile of other petitions that have not yet been processed manually. If they have processed it, ask for your newly assigned case number, and maybe when it was/will be shipped to the embassy.
