Not really your question but still..

I have nothing and no means to help financially. She is sure to get food for her children, but not for me. The house I live in is hers from before we met. She also bought an additional vehicle since being married, but because I don't have a work permit/ssn, I technically can't put my name on anything, yet. I have some questions...

From what I read in your post, a divorce is imminent. Now I am wondering, did you ever sign a marriage contract? If you didn't, you might want to consider getting some financial funds to you with the help of a lawyer ;)

As for your statement that you didn't have a work permit or ssn and cannot have your name on anything, that's not true at all. When I came to live here, my wife has put my name on many things, even on 2 bank accounts without me even having a SSN. I live here since Oct. 2008 and I doubt any rule has been changed regarding that. Think about this: if that was in fact true, what you say, then how come illegal immigrants without SSN and permit can still own cars, houses, bank accounts and so on?

I know this wasn't an answer to any of your questions but maybe it is some food for thought :)

Good luck with your situation!

It is extremely hard to understand what you have written. But not all banks require a SSN for an account. It has nothing to do with being illegal or not. The same goes for many other places as well. And previously having overstayed does not mean you will never be eligible for a social. I'm really not sure what the point of your comment is.

What I understood from dwc's post was that he may be one of those persons here who uses someone else's SSN and that he may not be able to get his own when the time comes.

That's my guess though

Ah, gotcha, that may be true. If that's the case though he's going to have bigger problems than not being able to get a social ... Like not being able to AOS at all.
