Election 2012: South Carolina Republican Primary

South Carolina Primary: Romney 27%, Santorum 24%, Gingrich 18%

What a difference a caucus makes. Rick Santorum who two months ago had one percent (1%) support among likely South Carolina Republican Primary voters now is running a close second there with 24% of the vote.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the Palmetto State finds former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney still in the lead, earning 27% support from likely GOP Primary Voters, up from 23% in early November. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is in third with 18% of the vote, followed by Texas Congressman Ron Paul at 11%.

Bringing up the rear are Texas Governor Rick Perry with five percent (5%) and former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman at two percent (2%). Another two percent (2%) of these likely primary voters like some other candidate, and 11% remain undecided.

Are these the same polls that figured RP would get 2% of the vote in Iowa?

Just listen to me. I'm not saying I'm good at this I'm just applying common sense:

Ron Paul will do horrible this election season. He's toast. He'll even do worse than Perry (but better than Huntsman assuming he doesn't drop out).

Perry will be gone after SC thinking that he might pull a miraculous and divine miracle in the south. When he fails to come in top 3 he'll immediately suspend his campaign.

Ron Paul will stay on the ballots but fail miserably.

Santorum is peaking right now and NH will shut him up for the rest of the season.

Mitt Romney has it in the bag. You might as well call your bookie and bet the farm on it.

I'll say it's about a 75% chance he beats Obama. If the job numbers keep improving then Obama might have a chance.

Romney is going to either pick Cain or Christie for the VP slot.

Obama will most likely replace Biden with someone like Rep. Kucinich from your state. He needs someone that can inspire people to get out and vote for him like they did in 08.

Where the hell did that come from? Up to four days before the caucus RP was projected to win Iowa. He was never lower than about 5%, and that was last May.

I wish he was at 2%, I wouldn't have to worry about the foreign policy idiot.

Might want to check it here:

You're forgetting that 65% of the popular vote goes to the popular candidate. If RP is on TV, he will win.

I wouldn't have to worry about the foreign policy idiot.

What's your problem with his foreign policy?

I don't see Romney going with Cain. Cain doesn't add anything to the ticket. Same with Christie. I see Romney picking Rubio for VP.

Cain want to become Secretary of Defense. That's not gonna happen but neither will Hermann make it onto the GOP ticket as a VP candidate - regardless of who tops the GOP ticket. Christie is looking to run for the top spot in 2016 when Obama retires or further down the road should Obama not get a second term which is quite possible. Christie will not be second fiddle to whoever tops the GOP ticket this year. I agree that Rubio is the most obvious choice - again for whoever tops that ticket but certainly for Romney since he needs FL, the Hispanic vote and some excitement for the conservatives.

RP is gonna pick the whole world up and drop it on it's f'kin head when he selects Dennis Kucinich as his running mate.

Never gonna happen. Even though there are many issues where Paul and Kucinich see eye to eye. It's just hard to see how they'd bridge the rest. You know, they have, from time to time, engaged in these grand coalitions in Germany where the mainstream conservative party and the mainstream progressive party formed a government together having 85% or more of the parliament united. One would think that in these constellations you get great things done but that is not what necessarily happens. Different governing system anyways but it would be even more promising when you have a government that controls 85% of the legislative body. But not even then could they find the political will to make the tough choices. Those were usually made when you had thinner margins of control.
