Just to stir the pot a little,

What do you say to those who are going in debt to pay for their education all the while your tax funded program is awarding a free education to the very people who didn't bother to stay in school and were too often a distraction when they were there?

Is this another case of -Those who do the right thing ended up getting the shaft in Gov't ongoing effort to be the GREAT ENABLER?

No.

What I would say is that if the people going into debt get anything from the education they pay for, it should be that educating people will save money in the long run, the money they would be paying in welfare. An educated population will benefit everyone.

Now I realize that racists are not going to like my idea for a number of reasons because the current system of handling "those people" works well for them. These people will be...

1. Racists who simply hate blacks and want them to stay in the gutter. The problem with this is for every black guy in the gutter it takes a white guy to hold his foot on his neck to keeo him there. Now I know there are plenty of white guys willing to do it, but it is still not efficient.

2. Racists who profit from the poverty industry, it IS an industry employing a lot of people to "fight poverty" (but not too hard) and they do not want to lose clients.

That said, I would have no problem with the government paying for education for everyone, but thats a different issue. Probably cheaper than welfare.

I mean it is great to run around saying "end welfare". YEAH! Right on! I say "End welfare by ending the NEED for welfare" One cannot just cultivate a sub-genre of people dependent on government and then just VOILA!, take it away. It has to be replaced with somewthing better...a path to independence. A way to say "NO we will not make you dependent...we will help you to be INdependent"

I suspect that if I told those people "But this is going to end welfare" they would be OK with it.

The funny thing is that these silly people you speak of would probably have no problem with the school they pay a fortune to giving free education to football players. But would object to educating someone to get them off the public dole? Very strange indeed, you see what I mean about having to keep someone in the gutter? You can't do it without being there yourself.

I'm not a college graduate and it didn't hold me back. H*ll, I didn't even graduate from high school...I got my GED and went straight to basic training. This country has too many college libs as it is.

Good for you! Seriously. I hope you have a great career. Hey, Rush Limbaugh did not go to college and look how smart he is...and RICH!

The point is, Kip, that almost no one who went to college is on welfare. The highest percentage by far are HS drop outs, next lower are HS graduates and GED holders. It is plainly clear that education and independence are linked. That is why we need to promote education. Heck, just requiring a HS diploma would eliminate half the welfare cases and cost no one anything more than we already pay. Incidentally a trade school would count, the trades really pay quite well, better than many college grads make. The only problem I see having been in construction forever is a lot of broken men in their 40's and early 50s. They made good money but it is brutally difficult on the body and you pay for it later.

All those punks that disrupted class will snap up when they can't get a drivers license or any benefits without the education.

Even in the depths of Obama's depression, college grads have a 4% unemployment rate. Education PAYS, pure and simple. Sure there are some college grads that can't find their @ss with oth hands, but the odds say education favors eliminating this nonsense

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
