I guess it depends on what country you are from but I will second the chicken thing and add cheese. In Canada it is not cheap to buy either but in AZ it was super cheap!

I did not have to do my drivers test, just traded in thankfully!

Coupons.....very different in the US, you really can save!

As a Canadian one thing I noticed is that I say sorry way too often and Americans think that is funny lol.

Also British English is not really accepted. My kids got marked wrong on spelling tests for writing colour and once my son was disqualified from a spelling bee for saying Zed I mean Zee when spelling Blizzard.

Oh one more thing, fast food is not the same even if it is the same chain.

In Massachusetts from the day you become a resident your foreign license is invalid. There is no grace period. I had to do the written and road tests. I studied the drivers manual until I thought I new it backwards. Being a forty something I didn't bother reading anything about junior operators. When I took the written test I got at least a dozen questions about the penalties for junior operators who break the law. I had no clue. I guessed as best I could and only just managed to pass. The road test is ridiculously easy. I drove round a very quiet residential street and then went back to the RMV. After the very strict and difficult British test I passed 20 odd years ago it was a breeze.

The British English thing I remember reading that some school or colleges actually permit British English and that they can't be marked down for spelling in actual English. It could be a school by school, or state by state thing but I thought that was good because you shouldn't be penalised. Yes kids need to learn and it should be marked as a reminder, but not down-graded.

I remember in high school trying on British English for size and getting reprimanded for it. My argument was that it was English, but I was told "This is America".

DIFFERENTLY, you spell DIFFERENTLY... lol. It's still correct :D I hate being told I'm spelling "wrong". It's correct English, it's just not American. Usually they're arrogant about it which is when it bugs me. If it's a "whoops that's Australian spelling!" that's fine, but I've been corrected in the most rude ways! In fact I've actually been told the word "learnt" was wrong and doesn't exist. I had to google it to prove the word existed but was just British English.

I too was good at spelling until I came here now I'm easy confused about what words I should be using and how to spell certain words. When I was working (not at the moment) I would stumble over words because I would realise/think mid-sentence "what if that words not American?" so I just got confused. It was really irritating :P

I found some people were very ignorant on the spelling thing, for them I said 'oh sorry I am used to proper English' Though not everyone is like that, I worked in a school and found most teachers were aware and understanding. I get it though, for those standardized tests it has to be one way.

For those of you who wished me well for my driving test - thank you!! And, yes, I passed lol.

It was pretty easy - had to do a reverse (or parallel) park (eek - that was my worst part - guess 12yrs of doing it in the opposite direction kinda stuck lol!), then some left and right turns in a quiet residential area. And they also made me do a quick stop - stop as quick as possible without skidding/screeching tyres (or should that be 'tires' lol?) from 20 miles/hr. And then back up a short distance as straight as possible - I got points deducted on that for only using my mirrors to back up instead of physically turning around in my seat to do it. All of that took no more than 10 minutes.

It is scary how easy it is to get a license here! The kids in this state only have to have their permit for 6mths and do something like 20hrs of driving and they can go do the test! And you only need to get 70% on the written test!
