Last name change

Hello !

I filed all the documents with my maiden name,did not want to mess up anything, so now I have no idea when I can go change my last name... My friend told me that I have to go change my last name on my SS card first, and then the rest of the documents and credit cards, but what about EAD/AP and the green card? It`ll have my maiden name on it, so now I`m scared that it may mess up something...

Has anyone had this problem?

If you wanted to change to your married name you should have written your married name on your AOS paperwork.

If you have an interview you can ask to have it changed there. You could try an INFOPASS. Otherwise you will have to wait till ROC or pay for an I-90. You can't change anything to your married name unless your change your GC. Well.. technically you CAN but you're right that the mismatch could cause all sorts of issues.

So do you think I can ask them to change my name during the interview so my GC will be with a new name? ugh, I knew I had to do it before...should not be listening to anybody...

That's if you have an interview though, a lot of people get approved without interview.

As was said above you might not even GET an interview. Not all K1's do.

@Jess I made the same error. I decided to just hyphen his last name and update my SSN first.

Well today at my biometric appointment I got them to hyphenate my husbands last name in their records. They were very cooperative. I also went to Social Security office and hyphenated my last name there as well. My SSN came in the mail this week and my last name appeared Antwi-Purvis. Just do that otherwise it will cost somewhere around $400 I believe.

i am now filling out the forms and i use both my last name then hyphenate my husband last name, for example my last name is miller and my husband last name is scott, so i write miller-scott for family name

Or you have the option to just use Scott.
