Removing Conditions & Naturalization

So I'm ready to file for Removal of Conditions.... in a couple of years, i'd like to file for naturalization. I read the eligibility to be Naturalized. Kind of a pain in the ####### to pay $600 to remove condition then in a year or 2 file for naturalization. What is the benefit other than trying to remember to renew your 10 yr green card.

Also, with a permanent resident card, can I vote? am I allowed?

My GC expires on 03/12/2012. Since Xmas & buying a new home has made us broke in december, is it too late to file tomorrow since its my payday (woohoo!)? I've been fortunate with my paper work up to this point. my 90 day period was in December 17 when I received the notice. I'm a tad bit worried. However, I have a crapload of financial evidences so I am not worried about evidences... W2, deed of trust, joint accounts... I got it all.

Ideas?

LPR's cannot vote in U.S. elections. Only U.S. citizens can.

Certain public sector jobs (most Federal, and many law enforcement) are open to citizens only.

Then there are other "perks". Want to serve on a jury and send someone to prison? Got to be a citizen for that.

Your 90 day window lasts from mid December to mid March. You can apply at any time in that window. Just make absolutely sure your application is received by the Service Center before your conditional GC expires.

GC holders are not granted voting privileges.

As for the filing, you are fine until/before your GC's expiration date. Your (ROC) packet must be submitted inside the 90 day window.

that's too bad about voting privileges. i would really like to vote and make my opinion count. Oh well... gotta wait... April 2012 is my 3 yr mark for naturalization... gotta get ROC then naturalization... the world of immigration process is def something else!

If an LPR tries to vote, or actually votes, he subjects himself to deportation. Same with claiming that he's a U.S. citizen. These are the two nonviolent offenses that court deportation.

"False claim of U.S. citizenship" is the worst non-violent crime a foreigner can commit. It is a deportable offense and carries a lifetime bar from the United States for which no waiver is available.

Just registering to vote is such a crime, as it implies that you are a U.S. citizen when you are not. Another way to kill the American dream is to serve on a jury.

But there's really no need to naturalize; it's purely optional. You can live as a lawful permanent resident in the U.S. as long as your heart desires.

Permanent residents are not allowed to vote. If you feel it is a rip off, you could always WAIT until your 10 year card is about to expire and then apply for citizenship so you get the full value of the Green Card.

You must file WITHIN the 90 day period. You are fine.

April 2012 you file for naturalization? how is that ..? if you are just now filing ROC... maybe I calculated it wrong but if you got your GC - March 29, 2010 then wouldn't your 3 years LPR status be in 2013 ?
