I am from Canada, and my fiancee is from the USA. Once we file for the K-1 (we plan to soon) can I go down to see him?

I know I have read that you need to apply for a B2 visa. If I want to go for a week, do I need a B2 visa? Or is my passport good enough?

If I do need a B2 visa, would it be easier for him just to come to Canada to see me?

Im a newbie...so your help is greatly appreciated!

03/17/2014-Green Card arrived in the mail

Canadians do not need B2 visas to enter the USA for vacation. You just go with your passport.

Yes you can visit while you wait for your K-1 but you will want to bring ties to Canada with you - eg letter from job expecting you back / rental papers/bills etc things showing you must return to Canada aside from a return ticket.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

I do have a career and own a house here, so proving that I have ties here is not a problem at all. I will make sure I have that with me.

You shouldn't need to tell them but if they start getting pushy it may help them to know that you have intention of doing things the right way, also may help if you have some of the paperwork like the notice of action /approval letter/interview letter etc depending on where you are in the process.

I wouldn't worry too much, my fiancee and I cross the US/Canadian boarder between the both of us 7 days a week. Some of the boarder patrol agents know us. We've been crossing this much since April '11 so no worries. I believe Canadians and Americans can be in each respective country for up to 6 months a year without a visa.

I got refused entry last March/11, so after that scary experience I haven't crossed into USA at all. We decided it would be better to wait until the visa was approved. They are soooo pushy(Homeland security) now the last few years, at least in Ontario border crossings. My fiance is a truck driver, so we have had short visits when he has gotten hauls--one in Ontario last summer, and 3 in Alberta since I came out here for winter to stay with family here. It has been more lonely for him than me, as I been with family, whereas he is alone when home. I would have ideally liked to do some 3 week visits a few times , but oh well.
