Just for the sake of curiosity, I have a question about this for you or anyone who might know: When they are considering the income, what family unit are they looking at, assuming a person has no dependents? Do they want me to make only enough for 1 person or 2? I would think that 2 makes more sense since I would be supporting myself and her, but am I correct in this assumption?

I sent my fiance the 134....why not, it's a harmless form to fill out and I had to send her a bunch of documents anyway.

I see this as a non-issue.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

The numbers given above by BJ are not the correct ones, you can ad 25% to those. Unless you or your fiancee have children, the family size will be TWO, you and her. They use GROSS income.

The income guidelines are increased each March 1 and take effect at the consulates on April 1. The ones now will not be valid when you have your interview, they tend to go up slightly every year.

Wow...good thing the numbers I posted match those listed in the USCIS document you posted....Good looking out. I took my figures directly from the agency that publishes these, the DHHS.

Oh and by the way: Note: Signing form I-134 is under penalty of perjury by U.S. Law (See I-134 Instructions under execution of Affidavit..i.e, this is a contract)

I also have the benefit of experience and have not provided inaccurate answers; in short #### off :)

All anyone can provide on VJ is their experience and opinion on the meaning of the law and I'm quite certain no one person is correct. Thanks for trying to lite me up for sharing my experiences with Lennard (better luck next time)

It is an affidavit, not a contract. A contract would be "by and between" listing two or more parties. There are no other parties listed on an I-134 and cannot, therefore, be a contract. It is an affidavit. There is no enforceable agreement entered into with the I-134.

The requirement is for 125% of the poverty guideline at most consulates.
