So, I just received NOA saying my husband's I765 has been approved. I think this is what we need to get a social security number (i hope!), which is fantastic. Now, here's the silly question: they're going to send something that is an actual "work permit", right? This NOA is just to tell me that they will be sending me the permit?

Yes they will send an EAD card because he cannot work without the EAD card.

Is an EAD Card the actual green card? I also had received an NOA for receipt of the I-765 in conjunction with my wife's K-1 but the only thing I received after was her green card, with a note that included that it was authorized to work

I have this vague memory of someone telling me that the EAD card was a sort of "tide me over" so the person could be authroized to work while they're processing the green card, should that be held up for any reason - RFE, or Interviews, etc. Maybe if you get the GC, you don't actually need at EAD?

No an EAD is not a green card. A green card is a green card. You do not need an EAD if you have a green card.

Many people aren't even issued the EAD and only get a green card.

No. The EAD is authorization to work in the US. Nothing more. In the case of someone who has applied for adjustment of status, an EAD is a temporary measure that allows them to work while waiting for the green card to be approved. The EAD becomes invalid once USCIS makes a decision on the green card application, whether it's approved or denied. If a decision is made on the green card application before the EAD is approved then an EAD might not be issued at all because it wouldn't be valid.

The green card replaces the EAD as authorization to work.

OK. My husband's EAD card just arrived, but they've put the DOB as 3/25/2011. He's 29. SIGH. Any guesses how long it will take to get a corrected card?

STOOPID!

I don't know who reads them that close any way, you will have it for a short time if you AOS and Green Card is Green Card, no EAD or AP needed.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

Ugh I don't know... I would think by the time the EAD is sent back you'd have the GC... I would make an infopass appointment to ask them about it. I don't think you can work with that error and you also want to make sure the GC isn't produced with the same mistake.
