I really think it's stupid that they only do immigrant visa interview's in montreal. I just sent them an email trying to get an alternative this is what i got in response The only processing location for immigrant visas in (Canada) is the US Embassy/Consulate General in (Montreal). Therefore, the NVC is unable to honor your request to change the processing location. after pouring my heart about how our one year old son does not sit still how is he going to sit for 6 hours on a plane and how I'm trying to get this done soon bc my husband will be deploying to a ship again for 3 months soon. I don't see myself getting much sleep before the interview either bc of our son so I'm afraid that i will be denied since I'll be so sleep deprived that i I'll mess something up i don't have someone to look after our i'm pretty alone here my family doesn't support us at all i'm hoping i can get someone to look after him i just want to go home i miss my husband and i miss seeing our son with his dad. it's beeen over 6 months since we've all seen each other

If ur husband is in the military and being deployed there are ways they can speed up the process. I'm sure the Nicaraguan people where I am at, would love to switch with you,lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

If your husband is Active Duty and has orders to deploy, you should ask them about an expedite.

The actual issue the OP is having is not an expedite or time issue - its the fact that she lives across the other side of Canada with her son by herself and has to fly all the way to Montreal to have an interview.

I agree I do think that its Stupid to have ONE US embassy process Spousal Visas in all of Canada. The least that could have been done was have the US embassy in VAN able to handle Spousal ones for people on that side of the country.

I do not think they will deny you though. I'm pretty sure if you explain to them at the interview the trials of your trip and everything going on that they will take heart to that fact and forgive any slip ups that may happen.

Not going to pry but why does your one year old have to accompany you? Do you not have any family or friends that could babysit for a day or two? I know it was hard with a 4 year old so I can completely feel your pain. YES IT IS STUPID :)

Yep...it's stupid. But there's no alternative.

I lived in Vancouver, and had to pay over $800 for a plane ticket to Montreal...only to be there less than 24 hours. It sucked.

Actually, when I tell people about what the immigration process requires, that's usually the part that makes their jaws drop the most: having to fly 3000 miles for what amounts to a cursory ten-minute interview.

Unfortunately you just have to accept it.

I would gather that the Consulates in Canada are not overly well staffed. Talking with Consular officers here, none of them want to goto Canada, lol Not as if they have a ttl choice where they want to go.

it's ok. i'm going to try to get someone to look after him but i don't want a stranger looking after him or paying alot of money for someone to look after him we can't afford it i stay at home and my husband doesn't make a huge amount of money.a lot of my friends and family don't have the time to look after him. i also haven't been separated from him more then a couple hours so i'm not sure how we will handle it :P
