Hello VJ-ers!

I'm finally in the US, I've been here for a month now. Enjoying my time off, to the point of pure boredom! I would really like to get start in working soon. Which leads me to my question.

When I crossed the border, the officer had given me a EAD form to fill out. I thought I couldn't even apply for EAD until I got married, is this correct? (P.S. I plan to get married on the 27th of January ...YAAAAYYYY!)

Also, I know there was a thread about what to do after you moved the states. Could someone give me the link to that post. I would like to know which steps to take after I have migrated to the U.S.

Thanks again guys. And Happy New Year! Hope you all had a great new year celebration!

Hi Minu Luvs Pinu,

glad to hear from you.I think EAD takes almost as long time as Green Card does. Since you are getting married soon you can apply for Green Card as soon as you get married so all employers can hire you.

1, you can apply for EAD before you are married.

2, it will cost around 400$ EXTRA.

3, it will only be valid until the I-94 expires.

4, by the time you are even issued the EAD it will likely be nearly expired. You would not be able to continue working with an expired EAD and have wasted an extra 400$ in the process of trying to obtain it.

File AOS/ EAD and AP as soon as possible. The EAD that you get from applying with AOS has no extra cost and is valid for 1 year / until you get the green card.

Please see the AOS guide on VJ in the guide section.

Here's the flowchart: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1flow

The other answers about the EAD are correct. Just apply with AOS.
