I am a Canadian filling out my I-485 for an AOS. In part 3. Processing Information, I'm looking for my Nonimmigrant Visa Number, Consulate Where Visa Was Issued and Date Visa was Issued.

I entered the US in Sep 2007 on an F-1 for school. I've since come and gone many times, thus accumulating several F-1 stamps in my passport. In 2009 I had a child with my girlfriend from school and on Oct 21, 2011 we were married in the US. I graduated in Dec 2010 and began Post Completion OPT in Feb 2011 that expires Feb 2012. Over Christmas we went to Canada and re-entered on 12/25/2011 where upon I was issued a parole status of 6 months, with the reason given that I was no longer a non-immigrant since we married and could not enter under my F-1/Opt.

Any help would be appreciated and hope this information is sufficient.

Regards.

This might be better asked in the Canada forum. From what I understand, Canadians can apply for a F-1 visa at the border. This is unusual. Normally a person applies through the consulate and gets a visa in their passport. If you just applied at the border, you may have been on F-1 visa status without an actual visa and visa number. I would think you would put "None" for the visa number, but I'd ask other Canadians, since applying for a student visa at the border is a circumstance unique to Canadians.

Regarding your "parole" however, was anything notated in your passport like "No AOS" or were you told you had to apply at the consulate? What happened on that entry? That might be something to worry about.

Thanks for your response.

Regarding receiving F-1 visa at border; that sounds correct, as upon each entry I received a stamp with the date, class of F-1, and until D/S. I will try finding an answer within the Canada forum thanks for the direction.

In my passport they attached a new I-94 (but left my existing I-94 in my passport) and stamped it saying "paroled" with an until date: May 25, 2012 and purpose: humantarian. They only told me to "get your paperwork submitted asap".

I made a call to the International Student Advisor from the College I graduated from and she recommended that enter NA and attach an explanation. I filled out NA - see attached and attached a sheet explaining that I am a Canadian student hence I have no US Visa and included a photocopy of the front and back of my I-94 that shows the F-1 stamp dated D/S.

Hi All,

I am in a similar situation and have a similar question. As I am Canadian, I also apply for my J1 at the border, and as a result, have no "nonimmigrant visa number" or "consulate where visa was issued".

Does anyone have any clarity as to what I should put in this section of my I-485?

Thanks so much
