Just sent in my AOS and IV packages today. I feel much relieved. How long does it usually take for them to reply? And what is this "Receive Instruction Package" in the timeline? Do you get it after NVC completed the review? Or do you get it during the review?

I never got any "Receive Instruction Packages"...

Grats on sending the packages. Lately, it's been taking a week or two to get a case complete, if nothing is missing.

The 'receive instruction package' is when you get the email from NVC requesting the IV package.

Thanks Saylin, I got the invoice email for me to pay the IV fee. And I did it about two days ago. And once I saw the paid status online, I shipped out my packages. So I never got that request for IV package, it's just the IV invoice. Am I missing something?

reg.ula.tion.me.ooow.2011 // tomcat.fight

to do list:
file i-130, petition for alien relative
get immigrant visa
get ssn card and green card
get employment authorization - not required
file I-751, petition to remove the conditions of residence (before 2nd year expires upon entry)
become a US citizen

Thank you Visajourney!

Don't worry, NVC is EXTREMELY slow when sending correspondence. You might get it this week, but you might not. I never got emails requesting to pay fees. I never got the email requesting for the AOS package. I did however get an email requesting for the IV package though, but I was already ahead of NVC and had sent my IV package a few days earlier. Don't stress about getting it. Not everyone gets the emails from NVC, so if you don't get it, it doesn't mean anything. Just focus on calling NVC every day and asking if they've received/reviewed your packages.

Thanks Saylin. Hopefully it's going to be a smooth sail.

I don't know what the "instruction package" refers to either. I didn't fill it in!

An employment letter isn't absolutely required, if I'm remembering correctly. Go ahead and have them get the letter, and if it isn't ready by the time you need it for the NVC, just bring it to the interview.

The AVR is telling me that our case was sent off to Montreal on Feb. 2. Should I be expecting acknowledgement from the consulate about receiving my case? I'd like to avoid having to contact them because I know Montreal is notoriously difficult to communicate with.

As alizon mentioned, an employment letter is NOT required (unless NVC requests for it in a checklist letter). Take alizon's advice and get the employment letter requested, and if it isn't received by the time the AOS fee is appearing as PAID, then just bring it to the interview, even though it probably won't be needed there either.

Nope, you won't receive any acknowledgement that it was received. You can call up DOS to see if it was, but that's it. Montreal does NOT email anyone unless it's in response to an email. The last correspondence is the interview letter, which you've already received.

I'm a bit confused, the joint sponsor doesn t need employment letter, just the tax transcripts?

Yes. Pay stubs and employment letters are OPTIONAL in AOS packages.

The only things REQUIRED in AOS packages are the I-864 and tax information.

And if there's a joint sponsor, along with the I-864 and tax information, it's also REQUIRED to send in proof of US citizenship/residency.

Exactly. Pay stubs and employment letters are only sent to prove current income. If she has it, then I would suggest sending it. But you don't need to go out of your way to obtain these things.

Yeah, I don't see why not as the tax transcript isn't a certificate or anything, just a copy from the IRS's records.
