Red highlights rock!

Yeah bright dyes like pink, dark red, blue... never last more than a couple weeks. The thing is you'd need to bleech your hair to a very light blond before dying it with the bright color.

Yeah, it was bleached before putting the color in. I was just expecting it to last longer, cause whenever I had gone to the salon before (this was my first non-salon dye), my colored highlights would last MONTHS. I just need to find somewhere that has like superstrength bleach and/or coloring, so I'm not spending hundreds of dollars for the color to only last 2 weeks.

They're going to pick up some French, well I mean Québecois, from their daddy, but from my experience having a lot of friends with parents from different countries, they'll be able to talk, but not to write it properly. Writing French requires at least a decade of intensive schooling involving a whip, actually un martinet. French spelling and grammar don't make any sense, you just have to hit until it gets in :bonk:

I'd love to find a good book or studies about children growing in a bilingual environment. How do you deal with the 2 languages at home to help them learn both?

If they are exposed to both languages in the home they will pick it up. It used to be thought that it delayed speech but it doesn't as all children start to speak at different ages. My nephew didn't speak English until he went to kindergarten, he was brought up in an entirely hispanic environment in New York.

Usually you hear stories of parents speaking their own language so that the kids don't understand, someone told me the other day that they live din Quebec for a while and her children realised that she didn't speak French so they would use it to communicate because Mum wouldn't know what they were up to.

My favorite thing I've read about raising bilingual children: the parents wanted to give 50/50 language exposure to the kids, so the mother spoke her native language (I don't remember what it was, but let's say English) and the father spoke his (French) all the time, which is what my husband and I do (he speaks French, I respond in English, etc.). That seemed to work for that family, as the kids spoke both languages at home to their parents. But when they started to go out in public and talk to strangers, they would always speak English to women and French to men!

I have an immigration lawyer. Should my wife still send the DS-3032 by email designating me, her husband, as her agent? OR our lawyer???

If you have a lawyer and it was mentionned on your original I-130 petition, then you don't send the DS3032. The lawyer is automatically designated as the agent.

Like Laure said, if you have a lawyer, then a DS-3032 isn't filled out. And also, because you have a lawyer, BOTH fees will be invoiced at the SAME TIME. Because no DS-3032 is needed, the IV is invoiced at the same time as the AOS fee, thus you can pay both fees at the same time.

Make sure you are on top of things with your lawyer. I've seen many cases here on VJ where a lawyer will take their time with documents and fees. So be careful. Unless you don't mind spending a few months in NVC.

Grrr..google voice has decided to stop delivering texts to Canada again. No more texting my husband for free. :protest:

What company are you with? Usually text messages are free to Canada. It's just the calling to Canada that's not free.

AT&T, it's 25 cents per text in and out.

Oh, you don't have a texting plan? You pay per each text?

Cause I'm with Verizon and I can text any Canadian number for free (it's considered domestic, along with the US). I just have a limit of 500 texts per month if it's not a Verizon number.

Ooo, I just graduated to Senior Member. :)

No no, I have an unlimited text plan, but if I text a foreign number, it's 25 cents to send and to receive. Using my google voice number, google assigns a US number to correspond to Canadian numbers, and then it's free to text and call them (using that US number). It works 99% of the time, but every 9-12 months, it randomly stops working for a few days/weeks, and because it's not a service google provides deliberately (just a happy accident), I can't really complain to get it working again. Boo.

Grats on the upgraded status ;)

Hmm, that's weird that AT&T charges you. Even when I was stuck in Canada for 9 months, I had my Verizon phone (US number) and I could text my husband from Canada to the US and I still wasn't charged. Guess Verizon has a better texting plan than AT&T when it comes to Canada.

And hopefully Google Voice starts working again for you. Never knew it was for texting as well. Just thought it was for calling laughing.gif

Just sent in my AOS and IV packages today. I feel much relieved. How long does it usually take for them to reply? And what is this "Receive Instruction Package" in the timeline? Do you get it after NVC completed the review? Or do you get it during the review?

I never got any "Receive Instruction Packages"...

reg.ula.tion.me.ooow.2011 // tomcat.fight

to do list:
file i-130, petition for alien relative
get immigrant visa
get ssn card and green card
get employment authorization - not required
file I-751, petition to remove the conditions of residence (before 2nd year expires upon entry)
become a US citizen
